plus, with Cooper and Sterling on their way out and what he holds over Don i could see it happening.
which may lead to SCDP destructing in the final season with Pete finally getting what he wants.

i wonder if Lane will shove Pete down the elevator shaft in an act of desperation if Pete finds out or it might be Lane that commits that and tosses himself down it.

Not sure Pete can dethrone don.

They both need each other really, each does a different job.

Scene with Don and Peggy was touching indeed.

Kenny's the only one that's probably completely happy.

Even after Peggy pretty much said fukk their pact, he probably went back to his office, went :ehh:, went home and wrote a story about it then fukked Alex Mack.

Basically. They're rivals only in the sense of who's got more sway/prestige at the firm.

Not like either can really push the other out the door.

Having said that, Pete is still awestruck (more often than not he's licking his boots) of Don in most circumstances.

If you think about cut throat Wall Street and Madison Ave businesses who do you think is more successful, men with Pete's moral compass or ones with Don's...Pete is far from dumb and ruthless enough to be a factor..The fact that he's never satisfied makes him a potentially better businessman than Don...I can see an a$$hole like Pete becoming a Donald Trump type...
This is kinda how I've seen it since Season 1. Pete kinda represents the "new school" corporate culture that we see today. Boring corporations run by the ivy league ass kissers who "play the game" to climb the ladder and use their jobs to gain status and respect...

Roger, Don, Cooper, Lane etc. represent the old school. They don't have to compete as hard cuz they know their spot is secured by the old boys network that will always look out for them. So they drink all day and come and go as they please...

And Don isn't really a part of that but he pretends he is and it works. Its all still just privileged white folks but the new school is more insecure. The old school knows they are rich and white and run the world so they have nothing to prove...

Its not a perfect analogy but thats how I've always seen it.

If I recall Pete is a partner because they needed him to bring his father in law in as a client when they started the new firm.

Good point here..

Pete is basically the only partner that doesn't either get drunk at work or is stealing from the company. He's actually a pretty hard worker and dare I say ethical partner if you look past all the scumbaggery..

I think all the scenes showing Pete as a loser and the foreshadowing of his potential meltdown/suicide was a pump fake by Matt Weiner..His narcisism and ruthless ambition could be the start of his hostile takeover of SCDP, but we'll see...Everything that makes him unlikeable to the viewer can be used to his advantage in business..He has the makings of being the rich, powerful, insecure, nasty jerkoff, business juggernaut that ended up running most Fortune 500 companies in the 70's and 80's..

I could see something like that happening. It's crazy how a brief scene can give foreshadowing to something big in the future.

When they started SCDP, they picked Pete over Ken because Pete made clients feel like they still had needs to be met.

Megan's pops was anti-corporate but in like 2-3 lines Pete had this man :obama::ohhh: at the idea of getting his work out to the world

That's the only time they've showed him being smooth.
