I don’t think this is an honest assessment. There was no way this WASN’T going to make money. They didn’t market this as a comic book film because it’s not one (and honestly it didn’t matter because the audience is really the same if we’re being honest).

It didn’t need a big budget; most of the money went towards the set and recreating the time period. Nothing else really required a lot of money. Hell, if they couldn’t make this movie for $55 million I’d say it’s time for them to get out the business.
