If something pops off in relation to this film it’s really gonna be a chicken and egg equation, was it actually inspired by the movie, or did all of the controversy in the lead up to it inspire someone? I’ve already said it seems like people are actively trying to will it into existence. I don’t remember any sort of hysteria like this with a film in quite some time

All this media coverage talking about "will there be a shooting?" is more likely to inspire a shooting than the actual movie.

A lot of mass shooters thrive off the infamy and attention they get from what they did. If they survive, obviously.

I agree.

It's the first movie to cast sympathy for these freaks like the one in Colorado it gives them a fallback to rationalize their behavior.
I'm pretty sure the people that have seen the movie have said it doesn't do that.

No it's not. Not by a long shot.:mjlol:

If this hysteria culture existed back in the day 90% of the movies we call classic would've never came out.

Just last week, Rambo Last Blood, a movie about a white veteran with PTSD killing a bunch of Mexicans was released. I didn't hear shyt about that movie being bad given the current environment.

"Taxi Driver" came out 43 years ago man. You said this is the first movie to cast this type of character in a sympathetic light.

The only thing that's changed since then is, celebrity is being attached to mass shootings.

Which is why I said all the attention and hand-wringing around this movie is going to cause a shooting. Not the movie itself. If all it takes is a movie to convince you to shoot a place up....you were gonna do it anyway.

Son of Sam was clapping people because he claimed a dog told him to....but if people were as up in arms about dogs, as they are about this movie....you'd say they were crazy.

Warner Bros. statement through Deadline:

"Warner Bros. has responded to the note this morning from five of the 300-plus Aurora, Colorado victim base expressing concerns over the release of the movie Joker on Oct. 4.

Says a Warner Bros. rep: “Gun violence in our society is a critical issue, and we extend our deepest sympathy to all victims and families impacted by these tragedies. Our company has a long history of donating to victims of violence, including Aurora, and in recent weeks, our parent company joined other business leaders to call on policymakers to enact bi-partisan legislation to address this epidemic. At the same time, Warner Bros. believes that one of the functions of storytelling is to provoke difficult conversations around complex issues. Make no mistake: neither the fictional character Joker, nor the film, is an endorsement of real-world violence of any kind. It is not the intention of the film, the filmmakers or the studio to hold this character up as a hero.

Cant say I disagree with a word WB said here.
