The Truth
I would say yes..... it was good but I think Split was better.

Also there can be an honest discussion can be had about whether this was better then Unbreakable.

But this is a decent movie. Sam L and McAvoy were more than enough to hold it down

Martha
Aight. Loan me $20 so I can go see it today

I think this movie is more like unbreakable than split so to me from what I gather from my friends your mileage varies . I like split and unbreakable love unbreakable more than the 6th sense and watch it a few times yearly. I’ve seen glass two times and the second. Time the ending bothered me less but it’s still very stupid and I definitely do not like David’s send off while the two villians get tender sendoffs . I think if you like split more you will like this movie more especially since McAvoy crushes it . M night definitely shot himself in the foot with that ending
No. I think you misinterpreted. His theory was that if he existed, others existed as well. This was stated in Unbreakable and once again in this film. He was obsessed in finding ANYONE that resembled any gift. However, his first theory was to find his opposite, since he wouldn't know what other abilities they had.

Everything you're mentioning has no bearing on the plot which is to make the world aware of people with abilities. First to find them, then make them known. It was him (and the son) that convinced David to go out into the world and save people in Unbreakable. David has been spotted and photographed on his own. Okay, he learned about the Beast a few months prior, so why wouldn't his plan be to put David against the Beast? Once again, he's obsessed with comics and the hero villain fight. That's why the tower was irrelevant. He spent months/years looking for someone like David. Once Glass was in the facility, he knew it was a matter of time before someone else would be in there as well. He's been patient, and knows that they are being watched. Glass is an urban myth, the Beast was on the news, and Dunn had been making noise in the papers for damn near 2 decades.

One of the reasons you can say he was having doubts could have been because he was getting bored in waiting. The doc even implied that he had been out of his room before, and he's been tampering with things around the facility. Once he had enough pieces in place, game on. Casey is irrelevant to the plot. Glass didn't even want to kill Beast, just wanted Beast abilities on display. He had nothing to do with Dunn dying either, that was just collateral damage, he only guessed that he would die.
sorry if you sit back and look at it glass plan was fukking stupid and doesn’t necessarily match up with the original movie ( which I’ll leave To the side ) what exactly does glass is glass plan because he didn’t seem like he wanted the end result of Kevin’s dad dying to be known yet and he couldn’t of planned to die like that . He also didn’t know that the girl from split could change the beast back . He had zero reason to believe that the black clovers would also let the loved ones leave alive as well or be monitoring their communications . The movie wasn’t terrible but it had all the pieces for a classic superhero movie yet he didn’t stick the landing also fukk off with the doctor she got way too much screentime instead of David and glass

I got the general gist of the film, but I'm sure little details went over my head since I never watched Unbreakable and Split. With that said, I thought the film was okay, there was a lot of telling instead of showing (possibly for people like my ass who ain't seen the other films, so I can't really fault them for that, since it is a sequel/follow up of sorts), I fukked with Glass' plan and how the asylum played right into it.

were the
clover leaf tattoo people
in the previous films? That intrigued me
Bruh, it seems you are missing out on key details to suit the narrative that this movie makes sense when it doesn’t.

Again Elijah’s plan in unbreakable was to find his opposite to prove he wasn’t a mistake. Not to expose superheroes. To say his plan all along was to expose people with powers just ain’t true. Because for 19 years due was locked up with no clues on what was happening outside. He literally came up with his plan the night before because he found out David and the beast were at the same facility earlier that day.

Not to mention, the all ended up at the same facility by happenstance. Which happened a lot in this movie. David just happened to run into the beast that day and went after him that night because he didn’t listen to his son. and the organization just happened to show up at the right time. You realize if David listened to his son, he would have never went there and the beast would have ate the girls and kept it moving. All of this was pure coincidence because elijah is not omniscient All of this is happening without Elijah’s knowledge so it can’t be part of some plan to expose people with powers.

Also another point of happenstance. Elijah didn’t know sh*t about Casey. So Casey f*cked up the plan as well by accidentally showing up the next day during the fight and making the beast change back into Kevin. This is the only reason the organization got a chance to shoot Kevin. Elijah didn’t know this. Nobody knew this would happen. The same thing with Joseph showing up out of nowhere.

The movie relies on coincidences that make no sense to justify the Elijah is a mastermind plot but when you think about it, it ultimately doesn’t hold up.

I think you forgot that M. Night wrote and directed BOTH Unbreakable and Glass... as well as Split. This is his story, his direction and how he want to tell it. Not only that, he stated YEARS AGO that he wanted to do a trilogy in which all of this was to come to fruition. So who are YOU tell him how to write his own shyt? If M. Night in Unbreakable wrote this about Elijah, surely he felt that Elijah's worldview will evolve, especially when it is a full NINETEEN YEARS LATER. It is still boils to the ultimate point to prove that he isn't a mistake to which again he emphasized in Glass.

As for happenstance. We know that Elijah Price been in the asylum for the criminally insane for 19 years. We know, based off what his mother stated, that he learned the blueprints of that building. He has 19 years to sit and plot and patiently wait for the opportunity. He told The Horde about his patience being used to his advantage as to learning all the routines of the security guards. He knew where all the cameras are located. He knew the computer system. None of that was just happenstance. The only thing that was happenstance was the capturing of Dunn and the Horde, and when they through... he knew this was his chance. But let that not be undermined that Elijah Price had NINETEEN YEARS of plotting and thinking, and that's what he does. It was why he was always one step ahead. It was why he had made that glass object to swap out, because he knew that moment was to come. He was just playing possum on everyone.

Exactly. Also the events of the first 2 movies showed us that she was on some bullshyt already so their was no suspension of disbelief

The thing is that they're regular chains. Dunn was able to break through a maximum steeled bolted locked DOOR. Those chains would of been easy for him to break. That said, they had to have him chained up like a criminal, because in their minds he was a criminal. The only reason The Horde isn't chained is because it isn't necessary when they had the lights and Mr. Glass is not chained for obvious reason. David Dunn... why not have him chained? He's still a prisoner. That said, those chains aren't some super-maximum chains that he cannot simply snap off.

As said you keep talking about 19 years to plan. To plan what? What if another hero ended up in there then what? He only got lucky that David and the beast ended up in that facility. Luck because m. night wrote it that way. Simple. As said he only came up with the plan for the beast the night before which came crashing down as soon as Joseph and Casey arrived. His whole plan on sending the video footage should have only been contingent upon his mom putting out the footage. Not to mention being lucky that the organization stupidly let Joseph, the mom, and Casey live to spread the videos. This is also something Elijah could have never accounted for. You keep equating luck by the writer to Elijah’s genius when the whole plan only works if outside players were involved. Outside players that Elijah never could have accounted and had no reason to account for.

It's funny to see how pretentious. m night really has gotten....

His cameo seen was so cringy.....the action sequences were wack...and the dialogue was too much......you could hear people sucking their teeth when the therapist bytch kept rambling

Macavoy changing personalities was entertaining.....It got corny when macavoy had to take off his shirt like 8 times just to show he the "beast".....the more I think of it...the movie was weak

I kinda thought the same thing. I don’t wanna shyt on him but it felt Bruce dialed it in.

Sam L just had to work with what he was giving but he came alive as the movie progessed. Old girl from them AHS shows..... something about her face and the close ups or way they framed her on screen was distracting.

But McAvoy KILLED that shyt. This dude put on a clinic.

I have conflicting feelings about the ending.... i didn’t like any of the victim girl from Split scenes..... but I understand why she was essential to this film.... just didn’t understand her motives or motivations (like even one of the McAvoys personalities said it..... “we did that fukked up shyt to you and your friends, you got away and coming back? Da hell”)

This movie ends with me perplexed like “what does this mean?

Was this a conclusion or are we getting legit future movies?

Wasn’t a bad movie, I still like Split best and wonder was this better than Unbreakable?

Martha

This movie and split is deeply rooted in psychology more than sci fi. The victim girl from split has stockholm syndrome from
Her experience with the beast as do the rest of the trio. The son’s syndrome also has a name i just cant think of it at the moment but the dr mentioned it when he tried to lie for
His pops. The mastermind title of mr glass
Isnt meant literally.

I take this film as a grounded marvel universe where the super abilities they displayed were still physically taxing or flawed. Even Sam L’s master plan was exaggerated because he did the supervillain boo boo of telling the hero his plan before it was fulfilled and had it fukked up by someone he didnt account for in Dunn’s son. He even said to him “he wasnt supposed to tell him yet” which proves he isnt a megamind

Exactly and based on how the movie played It there was zero chance elijah was thinking he was gonna get killed by the beast at the moment. So he must have been planning on actually getting to the tower

Cornfields, cows, & an one stoplight town
I kinda liked it. It wasn't great, but it was interesting, and different, and there were parts that were really intense.

The main problem was the storytelling. It was clumsy. Shyamalan hasn't learned how to trust the audience. He beats us over the head with things that can be shown and not told. So when the doctor repeats that she's treating people who think they're superheroes for the fourteenth time, it feels a bit condescending and definitely repetitious. I also think for a writer and director who has spent this much time creating his own superhero universe, this universe feels severely under-developed. What is the official name of the BS diagnosis the doctor gives a person who has delusions of being a superhero? What are the physiological changes Kevin actually goes through when he transforms? Are there medical reports on that? I just wanted a bit more world-building and less repetition of what we already knew. This seems like a George Lucas situation, where the director has some really great ideas and does much better when he gives his ideas over to better writers who can execute those ideas. That being said, watching Kevin go through all of his personalities was very entertaining. I think he outshined Elijah, which is also frustrating because the movie is named after Elijah. This is a constant problem when there's a black "lead", he gets upstaged by a more fleshed out, sympathetic, and dynamic white character that's supposed to be a side character.

Some things didn't make sense,
like why that Split victim was allowed so much access to a top security threat at the hospital, how long it took the police to get there, and why the long drawn out game from the doctor. If she wanted them dead, she could have had it done in a much faster and simpler way. I did like the twist though, that there's a secret organization and that there are more of these special people.

Even though this was a bit heavy handed and clunky, I would be interested in seeing a sequel. I wanna know where Shyamalan goes with this story. I just hope next time, he collaborates with a better writer.

6 out of 10 for me.

Are you part of the Clover Leaf society too? :jbhmm:

Because you are trying to hard to discredit everything that happened. Asking "what ifs".... nikka, this isn't YOUR STORY. This is M. Night's. You assume he came up with the plan despite his own mother telling Dr. Staples that her son stay plotting. Spoke of his genius. Part of the POINT of the film is also to make a bit ambiguous into questioning if they are super powerful beings... to which we eventually gotten an answer, but you going out your way still trying to discredit what happened. Mr. Glass is a wicked genius. You do not know how long he been doing it. 19 year in there, you have to make that logical conclusion that with him knowing the entire facility, all the security routines, time enough to swap certain equipment, and know how to hack a computer... that he's been planning this for a long time and NOT three days. It didn't matter if Dunn or The Horde was put in there or not. He was patiently waited for the opportunity and it came to him.... in fact, part of the film implied of something destined to happen same as the root to The Horde's origin... so story trying so much in discredit something that isn't your story... write YOUR OWN shyt if it's that serious.
