this may be more of a book reader/history of Westeros question - how is it that EVERY SINGLE current great house is basically only 5-6 people deep and able to be wiped off the face of the map so easily. seems like a couple of these families would have a wide network of extended family:

  • starks, down to the last 4 3 2 1 - sansa, and she's a female so would they even carry on if she got married and had kids (arya decided to be no one, bran is a early 00's computer stuck in reboot, and jon is a stargaryen)
  • targs - i get how their line was on the brink
  • baratheon - stannis, renly and bobby b gone (all his b*stards...i guess gendry can be the rebound if jon/dany win)
  • tyrells - was 4 of them, all dead
  • martells - are the martells done? i couldn't tell which prince they were talking about
  • tarlys - i guess sam is able to bring them back? it's clear he broke every rule of taking the black and got a kid on the way, seems like he's not night's watch nor on the road to becoming a maester
  • tullys - is edmure still alive? but they're gone
  • arryn - we all know robin aint fathering no kids
  • lannisters - only 3 left, although all have the most potential of the houses left to repopulate their house
Just seems crazy that all the great houses of the story started out with 4-9 at most (lannisters) members alive....is there anything in GRRM's stories to allude to why this is the case?
edmure is alive in king's landing reunited with his wife of one night

those 4-5 members are basically the head's of the house and under them is usually sellswords or like those lannister nephews that were killed by Robb's men just next over cousins

Why does anyone in westeros have to be on Dany's side? Obviously the north doesnt trust anyone after all the shyt they've been thru. Its common sense they dont want to be ruled by anyone

That's what Robb DIED for, for fukk's sake - northern independence! IIRC, the Boltons controlled *all* of the North, not just Winterfell. That had to have been a miserable time. After suffering under the Boltons under some Warden-of-the-Whatever-the-fukk, they ain't about to do it again. But Dany doesn't understand respect or listening to the other side. It's all "my daddy was king and I have dragons. Love me or die." She can't pull that shyt in the north, and that's why she's faltering. She's a conqueror, not a queen.

Can we speak on how trash all Neds kids are with the lone exception of Arya...

Rob = went out like a hoe ass simp

Bran = sits around all day watching his auntie and sisters fukking in VR

Bran warged out the entire Battle of Winterfell to time travel 120 years back in time for a more comfortable wheelchair

Then he claims he doesnt care or want about anything . His fight is over

So why is he at the Godswood with Arya, Jon and Sansa? He already said he dont give a fukk about the Iron Throne

All the incest made it so the houses did not sprawl. Had family trees looking like a ladder.

Seriously, it is a good observation though.

The Lannisters still have the minor set of Lannisters at Lannisport. I think Kevan is also still alive???
kevan got killed in the sept, not sure about lannisport as cersei makes it seem like this new baby is the thing carrying on the lannister names, but maybe she's just referring to her and jamie.

fukk trees apparently

:yeshrug:

I got the sense they met at some outlying, off site hold up for the meeting ...

I also dont have a problem with Cersei not killing everyone at the meeting, it was to discuss terms before the battle, which is shyt they have done plenty of in the past. If the scorpions missed Dragon, Cersei would have been absolutely fukked in a quick minute

also, Balerian basically won the throne for the Targs in the past - they need to let Dragon go OFF next episode, they have minimized the dragons/direwolves enough to this point

there are martells and tyrells that they don't show on the show

like dude said earlier, they are lannister cousins, Kevan died in the Sept of Baelor

Gendry is the only one still alive and the only one that Ned had met. There has to be a bigger purpose behind them randomly deciding to bring him back after completely ignoring his existence for 6 seasons and they even made it a point to have Dany remind everyone of his lineage. shyt feels obvious as fukk. Don't be shocked when Varys or somebody pulls that letter out his ass; they've been doing that forced callback shyt all season.

Ned also met the baby in the brothel. But that's besides the point. Ned surely wasn't intending to legitimize Gendry, a boy he met just once. He intended to lay claim to Stannis as the rightful heir. I know this cuz he states this explicitly to Renly.

Furthermore, Varys wouldn't need that letter for anything. If he's going to go down the "rightful heir to Robert Baratheon" road, Gendry's the only person left. Roberts brothers and their kids (well just the one) are all dead. The fake kids with Cersei are all dead. Gendry's his only living heir legitimized or not.

All that aside, Varys has seen nothing to make him want to support Gendry as a ruler. I don't even know why I'm in engaging in this nonsense, carry on breh. :mjlol:

I remember reading that GRRM kept the families relatively small just to make it easier on him as a writer :manny:

Otherwise these houses would be hundreds deep

nah, olenna said something about that being the last key to the tyrells when loras got hemmed up...and of course all 4 are dead now, so they gone

yea, i dont need them in the story, but i've seen the family trees, they used to be huge then just died off with the current gen. dude could've made them bigger. like there should be some stark first cousins out there somewhere, or sam's dad aint got a brother? we don't need to see or have them named, but it's weird how every single house was hanging on by like 4-5 people
