True, but I look at it in Mayweather mastered how to be effective while moving forward. What he wasn't going to do was let Canelo dictate the action and get in rhythm. His defensive style vs Cotto would have been disastrous vs Canelo. Also, I think Mayweather cautiously decides what punches he throws to protect his hands. Versus Guerrero he realized it was easy money after the first couple of rounds and let his right hand go at will, knowing that even if he hurt it Guerrero couldn't beat him. Against Canelo, Mayweather had plenty of opportunities to land significant power shots, but I think he knowingly didn't throw them to protect his hands. Mayweather admitted that Canelo's punches landing to the sides of his arms hurt...if Mayweather hurt his hand midway through the fight, Mayweather isn't big enough to keep Canelo off of him and would have been running. Instead he chose effective aggressiveness - moving Canelo around the ring, landing clean shots, not throwing aggressive power shots, and played defense to not take power shots to any part of his body.
My opinion of what happened.
