It's not like a Force power. The power is literally in her voice. So by gagging her and using a deaf guard they partially nullify her power. Until
Paul can remove the gag and they can take care of the deaf guard.

Thanks. I guess I was thinking, in a more general sense, is there anything that governs or limits that power? I would think she would be their most powerful weapon otherwise.

In the books it's a difficult power to wield and doesn't seem incredibly strong. Its primary weakness is that it pretty much can only be used towards one person with one command at a time, and only if that person can hear you clearly. If his buddies are with him then once they realize what's happening they'd just slap the shyt out of him and say, "What are you doing, she's using the voice on you!" and snap him out of it. So it's more like a weak, temporary hypnosis than mind control or anything, you have to use it either in complete isolation or for very immediate shyt before the others can react.

There's also a strong impression that abilities like The Voice are hated and distrusted by most of the world outside of the Bene Gesserit. They're basically considered witches by many with all of the negative connotations that entails, so while many wish to ally with them due to their power, if they stepped out of line and used The Voice with the wrong person or in the wrong situation they'd get fukked up.

That doesn't change the fact, of course, that the Bene Gesserit ARE incredibly powerful. But they know their limits, avoid taking sides as a group, and stay in their place so they're not persecuted for being too powerful.

how did the mother get captured in the first place if she could just tell people to do whatever the fukk she wants. Isn't that game over for any opposition? Or did I miss something? Also, what's the point of the force-field armor that only works sometimes?

You did. They were drugged by the doctor. Also.. the armor can stop or help w/ some weapons but not when a blade is pushed through.

Probably the biggest difference between theatrical & directors cut I've ever seen in film history. I'm always befuddled by the fact that Ridley Scott still doesn't have enough pull to do whatever the fukk he wants film making wise. I didn't know for years that King Baldwin was Edward Norton.

SOMEONE EXPLAIN THE
DREAM SEQUENCES FOR ME....

I THOUGHT DUDE WAS SEEING
THE FUTURE BUT THEN HE
TURNED AROUND AND MURDERED
THE NEGRO WHO WAS TEACHING HIM
IN THE DREAM SEQUENCE...
i never read the books but from the dream sequence (or maybe it was when he was putting his hand on the rock and hearing the voices?) it said that he had to kill paul to become the savior or whatever

and then his mom said during that fight when he was asking the breh to yield that he wasn't a killer and had never killed before

so essentially when he killed the breh, he killed his old boyish persona that had never killed anyone, proving that he's willing to do what it takes or something like that.

that's how i took it anyway, but in general as others have said (and as he told the witch woman who put his hand in the box) that he can see the future, but his visions don't always happen exactly as he sees them, so they're not perfect.

FIGURE IN HIS VISIONS
ONLY TO TURN AROUND AND BE
MURDERED BY HIM.

DUDE LITERALLY TOLD HIM

His visions show him “possible futures” that he can encounter. They can change according to his decisions.
