I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
The Wrestling With Shadows crew got so, so lucky with what they got that night during the screwjob. Everything just fell into place. :wow: A lot of this I already knew, but I hadn't really got Earl's perspective on the whole matter. If you think about it - that's a tough spot to be in. Do you follow the wishes of one of your best friends or do you follow the wishes of your boss and the person who pays you? Earl went with his boss.....

....and then got fired in 2005 for illegally selling WWE merchandise. :mjlol:

Cornette talked about it in today's Jim Cornette Experience podcast. He said that Vince didn't trust Eric Bischoff to not announce the new contract deal on Monday Nitro. This was back during the time when Nitro was live to air while Raw was taped. He said it would be terrible for one company to announce that they had signed the competition's world champion. Emasculation, I believe, is the word he used.

Vince paranoid as hell

So does anybody actually think it all was a "work" like Hall does :patrice:

Good episode.

I don't think the Montreal Screwjob was a work.

I read Owen's wife's book and she said Owen actually tried to get his release the next day after it happened

Like I said, if it's a work then Bret's own family got worked as his brother tried to quit the next day.

But was he wrong?

No. Bischoff was showing wrestlers throwing WWF title belts in the trash and giving away taped results on live television so Vince had every right to think something screwy might go down even with a wrestler such as Bret Hart. I can see both Bret and Vince's POV in the situation but in the end Vince's back was against the wall and Bret should've just said "fukk it! I'll drop the belt to the little doped out prick and go make $2-3 million in the rival company." In the end, WWF benefited from the Montreal Screwjob while it basically broke Bret and it showed in his work at WCW.

But was he wrong?

Yes because before all of this he gave Bret a magic contract (25 year contract rest on your career then work as one of my top people as an executive remember Bret's father ran a promotion so Bret could have done it. Bret was the last of cats from the different territory days) but then told him he couldn't afford to do it and told him to go to WCW but had the money for it a fewonths later by then it was too late

I was shocked they didn’t mention Madusa trashing the women’s belt on Nitro as part of the reason he wanted Bret to lose before heading to WCW

I'm surprised that Cornette or nobody for that matter brought up the Wendi Richter/Moolah double cross and instead he brought up one that happened in the 1930s.

Apparently, Cornette gave 6 hours of interview, mentioning all the previous screwjobs and legal issues between WWF/WCW involving talent, contracts, titles as intellectual property, and so on.
