that's what they said about the internet though.

and how do you expect it to be regulated

Not sure how you can compare bitcoin to the internet. Not sure where you were going with that. It's apples and oranges.. But as far as regulation its the wild west out there regarding bitcoins. Look at the MT Gox situation. People dont trust it anymore. And to be honest the only useful purpose of bitcoins right now is to pump and dump, buy drugs, launder or clean dirty money, or to avoid paying taxes and hide income. None of which was the intended purpose of its creation. The government will get involved... the only question is how far the govt will go.

well like internet, bitcoin is a totally different technology than what people are used to understand and handle. There is a very similar learning curve based on establishing trustworthy infrastructures and gradually teaching people how to use it.

That's just plain false. However you want to spin this, the intended purpose of its creation is still very much true. A frictionless extremely cheap way to transmit money electronically without the use of a third party.

You shot yourself in the foot with the "buy drugs" comment. I'm not sure you understand the whole scope of Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies. They are still very much in their infancy and the Mt Gox situation is simply growing pains.

With technologies like OpenTransaction being developed behind the scene, there will come a day soon when it won't matter how the government will want to get involved. It'll be like asking them to shut down Bittorrent/Pirate Bay. They simply can't

Its just code breh. Nothing really special about it. There already a million bitcoin clones written by other hackers and coders. many claiming to be better and have more features than bitcoin.. bitcoins are not special.. they were just first.

as far as the drugs comment.. Imma just leave these articles here..
http://money.cnn.com/2014/01/27/technology/security/bitcoin-arrest/

http://m.washingtonpost.com/blogs/t...eged-founder-of-bitcoins-largest-drug-market/

They dont have to shutdown bitcoin. They just have to regulate it or make it difficult for retail or mainstream adoption. If that happens its percieved value will plummet and drive it underground. you greatly underestimate uncle sam..

:heh:

it's just code....

It's a revolutionary protocol built on 20 years of cryptographic work providing a practical solution to a problem that had existed since the birth of computing.

bitcoin are special because they are supported by the biggest peer-to-peer network known to man. all these other "clones" as you say are just that, clones, built off bitcoins' code and protocol. and none providing truly different features than what bitcoin has the capacities to be turned into

them being first makes a world of difference. read up on the network effect

the links you posted bring no valuable informations. for every article you make of people being arrested for transacting bitcoins for drugs I can find 10 of people transacting USD for drugs

I'm wondering what, if anything, will stop this downward trajectory. I'm just surprised there wasn't a crash.

Im expecting one. Mt Gox situation probably gonna get uglier. We could see 500$

What happened to Gox?

I just noticed the price dropped below Bitstamp and BTC-e

:dwillhuh:

Didn't I just post a week or so ago about the arbitrage opportunity when Gox was trading like $200 above the other exchanges?
