Another movie from around the time of the original, with social commentary, is The People Under the Stairs. It covered gentrification in a more subtle way, and while it wasn't scary, it was creepy. You also felt the danger of the situation. One of the main problems with this film is that you never felt that the protagonist was in any kind of danger - not personal, not with the police, not even with the transformation.

Great post....totally agree. PUTS is super underrated imo

shyt was mid as fukk. Definitely a disappointment. The ending was the only worthwhile part of the movie.

Dude needs to stop shoehorning all the woke shyt and just make a got damn horror movie for fukks sake.

That's all he has to do - make a good horror movie first. The commentary he wants to convey will take care of itself. It's like he/they frame a scene, then say "stop. I want this message to be inserted here."

Couldn't even give him a black man to be with :snoop:

Not even trying to get TLR with it but there's 3 straight Black men in the whole movie.

1 is a jobless artist living off his girl (and they drive this point home multiple times) turned monster who they try to "redeem" by weaponizing him

1 is a bougie and pretentious art nikka

And the other turns out to be a fukking lunatic

It's like they went down a hashtag checklist making this bullshyt
