Last time I checked an unethused vote for Biden (eg Me) and an enthused vote for Biden (eg Warren Moon) count the same...

Enthusiasm is a terrible metric to go by, it says nothing about whether or not somebody plans on voting. There's connotation happiness or excitement with the word, which seems irrelevant to the current circumstance. Trump increases our collective anxiety and getting rid of him is a relief. Biden has routinely polled the best against Trump nationally and in battleground states, that's why he's done do well in these primaries and turned out new voters.

Biden is winning with prospective voters who dislike both him and Trump, which is a demo that Clinton lost in 2016. I think that's important. Moreover, simply asking people "if they intend to vote and for whom?" would yield useful data.
I hope you're right :francis:

The problem is that unenthused votes can easily turn into "stayed home because it was raining that day" non-votes :francis:

I find it hard to believe that people are going to stay home against Trump if 100-150K people are gone by November.

fukked up that I even have to type that out.
People don't blame Trump for the coronavirus. :yeshrug: Plus Biden is nowhere to be seen, allowing Trump to push whatever narrative he wants.

Joe Biden has more time to spiral into madness

Democratic National Convention postponed until August, delaying official presidential nomination as coronavirus spreads

If enthusiasm were a legitimate metric to go by, then Bernie Sanders would be the nominee. How'd that turnout? Biden was left for dead before SC and he ended up being the beneficiary of higher turnout.

Enthusiasm gap vs Biden turning out new voters + turnout being up before the pandemic + Trump botching the response to it (his meager gains are already eroding) + over 5,000 deaths and we haven't hit the peak + 6.6 million people filing for unemployment + getting the US involved in an international incident (that's what he does when he wants a distraction) + etc.

Y'all are doing a lot of guesswork because a pollster decided to ask a dubious question instead of an inciteful one.

The youth come out more in the general election than primaries. Also Bernie still won 30-40% of the Democratic primary voters, voters he will need in the general election. What is Biden doing to ensure those voters don't stay home besides saying he's not Trump?

90 percent of Sanders voters will vote for Biden. You guys are just arguing to be right at this point. Sanders won the policy argument and still lost. Focus on winning elections and moving politicians, not just on policy. Good policy doesn’t win elections or Republicans would never win.

Enough Sanders voters stayed home or worse, voted for Trump (!) to make a difference in 2016. Do we want to lose again?

Source? Also, I would be skeptical of that poll.

The general election and the primary are two different things. The enthusiasm gap didn't matter in the primary because Bern just didn't have the numbers, but it's something to worry about in the general.

But if history is anything to go by it could screw over the Dems against Trump. In 2016 there was a similar enthusiasm gap with Hillary and we saw how that turned out :francis:

Or it's just evidence that enthusiasm is nebulous and that fails to capture intent to vote. It's April and the electoral landscape is growing more precarious for Trump. His past trangressions haven't been forgotten and his currents ones have yet to bear fruit.

Again, in 2016 Hillary lost the voters that had negative views of her and Trump, while Biden is winning them. That has nothing to do with enthusiasm, it's the lesser of two evils.
