I don't think there's a thing wrong with Abolishing ICE besides the fact that we have to combat the misrepresentations about it. It gets conflated with Open Borders too often, when there's more to it than that. I'd compare it to how they went and tried to flip the script on Black Lives Matter to make it sound like only black lives matter was the point when it obviously wasn't. A moratorium on deportations while they abolish ICE and shift responsibilities to other governmental bodies just makes sense to me.
I do agree with your overall point that the super purist types are overdoing it. So don't get me wrong on that end, people taking it too far risk screwing up opportunities to create allies and craft a movement where people are more comfortable talking about subjects they don't understand in a more inquisitive manner. I think these folks assume bad faith automatically and that's more a result of dealing with the online dog whistle red pill gang too much rather than having real world conversations with every day people.
But I really don't want to see Abolish ICE paired up with the cancel culture crew. The Joe Rogan stuff is complicated in that, I understand why people who have only seen clips of his worst comments would find it hard to accept him. But I really think he should be the example of how there a people that would be open to discussions about these topics and to evolving on them as long as we don't immediately jump to attack them but instead aim to respectfully inform them...and if they cling to ignorance than we can shift to being mean later
