Another dope episode.

This Socks dude... White Liam Neeson's a problem.

On Paper Boi's Rave reference, Glover performed at the Rave/Eagles for the BTI tour. It's both supposedly haunted and has a hidden "locked off" empty pool that the ghost kids drowned in that someone performing there could get into. Wonder if any exploration from that inspired Darius' story this ep.

I didn't even peep that could be the case :ohhh:, either way Socks is :camby:

My least favorite of the season so far, but some funny moments with Earn

When the uncle said he hadn't seen dude in 15 years and Earn said that's a stranger :dwillhuh:

Also "Either he's 32 or lying about being 32, either one is weird" :skip:

Felt Paper Boi talking about not writing for six months, being stuck being a rapper now, and why he needed the phone back :ehh:

TBH w/ you, IDK...kid found a commonality w/ Paper Boi. Went from wanting to murk this nikka to feeling where he came from and sympathizing w/ him. His one dream was to chop it up with him, just like the Make-A-Wish kid. The same thing PB felt when he was on the stage was the same Wiley felt meeting his A-alike
so I've went back and rewatched this scene like 5x. It's really deep from my interpretation. Paper Boi had lost his drive and inspiration, just like Wiley. PB needs the phone because what he recorded inspired him to continue rapping. He doesn't even like doing it, hence why he's had the 7 month writer's block or lack of drive to put any effort into it. Wiley related to that after his break up w/ Rosie but PB was his cell phone. Just like Wiley told them "you want get what you want that way", all he seems to be asking for is honesty. PB isn't being honest with himself about why he continues rapping. Which is why PB admits that he's only doing this b/c he doesn't have anything left, doesn't feel like he has anything else he can do. If "stolen" is the theme of the season, his drive and passion have been stolen from him. Like someone mentioned, someone like Socks is someone PB has to have his guard up against. That one interaction w/ Wiley is a true fan and PB let down his guard and was just honest Al, not his rapper persona. Just my interpretation :manny:

edit: and just like PB doesn’t really see the value in rapping anymore, Socks didn’t see the value in holding onto the phone. It lost it’s worth

How I processed this as well.

To add, I do not think Al or any of them really caught on to how big the Paperboi brand is now and he's not a major international star. Wiley was merely the ultimate STAN and we all know how obsessive Stans on in knowing every single detail about a rapper's or entertainer's life, even shyt that that rapper may of forgotten. Wiley and that cancer kid were willing to do anything for Paperboi because of their obsessive love for him. I dunno Alfred is accustomed to this new life he has now and feel disconnected, That's why in the beginning he tried to reach out to Earn in hopes of a normal conversation beyond talking the tour talk and couldn't get that proper conversation. He knows that things are different yet he yearns for that same hunger that he first had when he started. You can even tell to how his music sounds now when he performs.

PB NEVER wanted to be a rapper and always felt forced into it as a hustle. He sees the value in it but its not a “passion” of his. Paperboi is the ultimate “I’m not a rapper i’m a hustler” definition.

Darius constantly trying to sidetrack the narrative into a 'filler episode/parable' was :russ:

They excel at finding actors with punchable faces for this show. The nephew might be one of the most annoying characters they've had. White Wiley is up there with Black Bieber and Clark County :lolbron:
Motherfukking Socks. :martin:

I might be reading too much into this - but him tossing the phone reminds me so much of how the music industry is in Europe about Black music. In the mid '90's it was nothing to hear about cats popping up on some regular shyt in Brixton when they flew in from The States. There came a time when record companies started flying dudes in around the early 00's when all that stopped. They were basically all kept in West London by a bunch of handlers. Socks throwing away the phone felt like a metaphor for this new version of the game cutting people off from what they know or a sense of community. The trade off is that the artists get a bunch of money.

Trailer for next week looks like some fukkery too :mjlit:
