It's not that easy when there's no money in anything except Android & iOS. Samsung's the top manufacturer in the world and in 2015-2016 tried to gear up their own separate OS by overpaying developers to make apps for their platform. They got very little support and there hasn't been anything about Tizen since. Huawei's basically Blackberry status except at least Blackberry could run to Android, there's nowhere to run for them.

They could survive without US chips which is why they made their own silicon, software's a different story. Hundreds of millions of apps gone, no Google services which means they have to create their own mapping technologies and voice software. It's more than a skin, they have to start from ground zero while their competitors still have Android.

Didn't even think about what this could mean for Microsoft. Since Google is banned from software, could this mean Huawei laptops are DOA too :ohhh:

Yeah, losing access to Google Services is the real crippler. If this was say, 2010 or something, this would be devastating, but there'd be the outside chance they could exist as a fringe third option or something. But just the amount of money and/or debt they would need to pour into developing their own suite of services that can be seen even just as an alternative to Google, let alone an actual competitor would be astounding.

Maybe they could switch gears and become a chipset developer for the east? Even then, that's hard to say, since other manufacturers probably don't want to risk pissing off Google by using their chips, if they were made available.

The optimistic talk rn is about this secret OS they've worked on for years, the reality is a lot of these companies all had the same idea of cutting Google out for potential profit/data. Nobody's made a move because they can't even get it off the ground to get the profit, it's too late for a new challenger.

The closest thing to this is what happened to ZTE. US questioned ties to Iran, found ZTE lied when questioned and put a ban on them importing Qualcomm chips. They still had access to Android but still fell from the #4 manufacturer to not mentioned at all, all happened within the last 3-4 years. Idk what they do from here and I don't think anyone else can say for sure either, a denial of service like this hasn't been seen. Like I said before, yeah the war is for 5G but how can Google be barred and not Microsoft and Windows. No Android or Windows means the entire retail operation is dead.
