Sequels usually have me very hesitant, but this turned out pretty good. Sound design was fantastic, and the opening sequence was probably my favorite out of them all. I agree with the echoes towards the shades of The Last of Us — the imagery, color palette, and score made it feel like I was running that game back at times and it was honestly the closest thing to the game that I’ve seen on the big screen.
Cons? Eh, same as the first iteration. I’m still tired of seeing these Stranger Things-esque monsters, but the film built its tension so well to the point where I was soaked into the story and didn’t mind them by the end.
The ending was a bit abrupt and I wish it could’ve settled into the story a little bit longer, but this property is well on its way to provide a great modern horror trilogy.
