Just checked Travis didn't win when he had that monster year with Astro but lesser artists have. So what exactly is the criteria for winning

The criteria in Best Rap Album has traditionally been Monster sales = Win (Eminem/Drake) or Good-Great sales + Critical acclaim = Win (Kanye West/Kendrick Lamar)

Killer Mike literally shattered the tradition this year. Its the first time an album that debuted outside the top 10 won Best Rap Album. Its the first time an uncertified album won against multiple certified albums. Its the first rap sweep of the decade. Its really quite astonishing.

If this were literally ANY other year that a Kendrick album wasn’t competing Travis would have won

Kai Cenat basically summing up Gen Z and up — embarrassingly ignorant and proud of it. I wouldn’t expect a 22 year old from NY to know who Killer Mike is, but he’s also supposedly living in Atlanta, and at the very least you’d think he’d be familiar with Run These Jewels with how much of a cult following they have.

But I’m glad that album won. It was definitely a top album last year and if you weren’t having Nas win it, Killer Mike definitely deserved it. I don’t fukk with any of that Run These Jewels garbage with those awful El-P beats, but the production of ‘Michael’ was nice from top to bottom along with the content, and it was more a return to Grind Time Killer Mike instead of avant-garde “white revolutionary music” Killer Mike. None of the albums Kai Cenat mentioned were worthy of b winning album of the year. ‘Utopia’ was Travis Scott’s worst album easily, ‘FATD’ was a bottom tier Drake album that was only saved by J Cole and the Scary Hours 3 bonus tracks later on, and Metro’s album simply wasn’t better the ‘Michael’.
Bro I’m in my 30’s and be in Atlanta frequently. Nobody is listening to killer Mike and run the jewels in the A lmao. RTJ probably got a cult following online , not in real life in the A. So I’m not surprised at all he don’t know either. I

As a Lupe fan, I'm glad things appear to be changing for the better in this department

Yeah, I know! but he should have more
Yup but just one more. In 2007 Food and Liquor shoulda won rap album of the year. Ludacris release Theropy won. Which was a solid album but clearly Lupe was robed that year. The cool however was up against the Carter 3. No way it was winning there. Lasers lost to MBDTF. Clearly correct. F&L2 lost to Drake Take care. Even if Drake didn’t win Nas LIG would have
