Really not feeling offseason so far. Way too conservative. Swapped Davis for Reed. Lost Zeitler. Brought back Davenport but released Zadarius Smith.

Rookie Edge players generally dont light world on fire immediately especially a late 1st or 2nd rd picks. Still need a starting Guard. Holmes just doesn’t seem to value pass rushers like he should. Wouldn’t shock me if they still went BPA and drafted a safety or something. If Hutchinson starts off slow coming off injury their in trouble again especially with Alim mostly like out until mid season
Don't wanna ruin the long-term "window" and "flexibility." :unimpressed:

Lions defensive penalty proposal fails

A proposal to eliminate automatic first downs on defensive holding and illegal contact penalties failed Tuesday, per reports.

The Detroit Lions introduced the proposal, which sought to eliminate automatic first downs on certain defensive penalties. Under the current rules — which will remain in 2025 — illegal contact and defensive holding will result in a loss of five yards and an automatic first down.

Fans want the Lions to go DE early and they have Hutch as DE 1. Obviously they’re fine there. So they need a compliment for him

1..Paschal/Davenport are bigger Edge setter/run stuffing DE’s..Both are injury prone and contracts are nearing their ends . Which means this is likely the style they’ll target

Prospects that can fill that role in round 1:
Mykel Williams (unrealistic,he’ll be gone )
Shamar Stewart (realistic but lack of production)
Nic Scourton(realistic, has the size but apparently is pass rush first )
Jack Sawyer (realistic might be a reach in round 1..but feels like a Lion)
JT (realistic might be reach in round 1..but feels like a Lion)
Landon Jackson (realistic ,reach in round 1 …but feels like a Lion)

2.Barnes plays that rush end/linebacker hybrid and just got paid …and I guess Rodrigo and Houston???? Could draft a player in that archetype..But would they do it in R1 after paying Barnes ??

First round Prospects that could fill that role are:
Jalen Walker (unrealistic,he’ll be gone)
Jihaad Campbell (Unrealistic,he’ll be gone)
James Pearce (realistic but has personality flags apparently.. the “no turds” thing may mean he’s off the board)

3. Guys who are pass rush specialists but seem not to fit what the Lions typically want size wise but are first round talent

Mike Green (might be there because of red flags, same feeling because of the “no turds” thing )
Donovan Ezeiruaku (realistic)

I think it’s a a high chance the lions are going to reach for a guy if the plan is to take a DE just off what their roster needs and the style of guy they like ..

If they bring Z back I don’t want them to go DE in R1

Looking at all these other extension this year lions gonna have to let some people walk. All these guys getting top money at their positions

Kerby
Hutch
Branch
Gibbs
Jamo
Laporta

Know edge is big concern but if Matthew Golden is their in first it wouldn’t surprise me if they draft him. Jamo is a knucklehead and wr contracts have gotten ridiculous. He’s the most likely candidate to not be extended by lions. Just bring Zadarius Smith back. Signing Kerby and Branch to big extensions for safeties is gonna hurt. Kerby is rare ball hawk but feel Branch is more important to team

I'm at a point where there's not much that can happen in the 1st round that would anger me next week. Zero chance Holmes is gonna settle for the 5-6th best pass rusher over the best guard at 28, or even a safety....if Starks is there I'd 100% take him.

My defensive hope: Derrick Harmon or Mykel Williams. I'd have no issue trading up for either. Harmon and Levi would destroy interior o-linemen and allow Alim to get healthy without rushing. Imagine all three on the field plus Hutch and whoever else at the other end in a NASCAR blitz package.

My offensive hope: Tyler Booker or Grey Zabel. Either guy secures the o-line. Preferably Zabel who can shift to center when Ragnow retires.

WR wise...if there's any way to get Jayden Higgins or Elic Ayomanor I'd love that. Getting an elite athlete at X is the final step for the offense IMO. I'd imagine they go early in the 2nd round though so unlikely we get them. Both have ties to the Lions coaching staff.

Thats alot of money for a safety. Branch gonna want similar money soon too
At this point I don't worry about contracts. To teams prove over and over again that the "cap" can be circumvented and they can sign who they want when they want. Just takes the proper accounting. I think people not in the business that try to figure that shyt out are wasting their time. I'm just glad the lions are finding ways to draft, keep and reward good players.
