We had a fortunate schedule and we benefitted from Jordan Love playing injured all season. We can admit that now. Zdarius Smith is 33 and on a one year deal and not a difference maker and neither are the large amount of depth pieces in the draft unless we trade up for mason graham. What’s on the team as is isn’t good enough to go into Philly next January.

Given that Love isn't great when healthy I'm not sure what your point is there. We're frauds but GB, who lost to every good NFC team they played, are a threat? Come on. Once again we had a top 2 run defense until we lost too many bodies, and overall had a top 10 defense until the bottom fell out with those injuries. This is a really good team that faced a (literally) historic level of attrition on one side of the ball. That's not going to happen again.

And this draft is full of good players who can make a difference. Maybe you only watch Michigan games. Jihad Campbell auto improves this defense. Nick Emmanwori auto improves the defense. Drafting Donovan Ezeiruaku and pairing him with Hutch auto improves the defense. This is a deep draft. Given the roster strength and where we're drafting in each round I don't expect multiple starters but there are certainly guys within the first 4-5 rounds who can be impact players at some point. Including some mid round X receivers who look enticing as fukk.

The only concern I have about 2025 is what we do at DT while Alim heals up. Luckily it's a deep d-line draft.

Combine started and i didn’t even know. This what being a good team fills like :gladbron:

Dont know any prospects in this draft outside of top picks. Which is crazy. I love draft time usually

The Zadarius contract has a void year tacked on that would have essentially doubled his cap hit in 2026 if he wasn't cut this year. I get why we released him. At the same time I have to assume the emphasis is gonna be on getting more pass rushers onto this team via FA and the draft. Personally I like the Davenport re-signing for depth...there's zero chance they're gonna trust him as a starter again.

Only problem I have is that it seems like Shep is keeping the same preferences Glenn had for the edge. They just want a big body, Davenport-like guy who can crush the pocket and contain the run. It's less about being a flame thrower going after the QB as it is about forcing the QB to the middle or opposite side where Aidan/Alim/LBs can make the play. I wouldn't be stunned if Brad/Campbell/Shep/etc look at this draft and don't have Abdul Carter in the top 5 of their draft board. Just like I don't think they like Micah Parsons or most OLB rushers who are smaller. If you aren't 6'5, 260+ they not fukking with you lol. So I guess my Donovan Ezeiruaku 1st round dream is dead.

abdul-carter prolly going top 3 and maybe even 1st overall...but its more indicative of this draft class. not a lot of true blue chip prospects so the guys with sky high upside like him will rise....teams basically will say hey its more of a crapshoot than ever so why not take a guy with ridiculous get off first step.

Lions free agency news: Carlton Davis not expecting to return to Detroit

Davis fully expects to relocate, and he insists he won’t sign until the price is right.

“I feel like last time, I just kind of panicked,” Davis told The Athletic on Saturday. “I was younger, and my mindset was, ‘I need to go ahead and just choose.’ At the time, the thinking was, ‘This is the offer, and the more you wait, the more that number’s gonna go down.’ Yeah, that can happen, but teams know your value, and right now I’m playing my best football.

“This time, I ain’t gonna settle for less.”

Davis, 28, doesn’t believe the Lions will make an aggressive effort to bring him back.

Report that the Lions want to spend 12mil/yr on a CB, whereas Davis is looking for 15mil+.

If this is the move...you better ace the pass rush. At that point your CBs don't matter as much as long as they can play man. Do you want to roll with Amik as a starter? He played really well in the final games, including amazingly in that Vikings game, I just don't know how sustainable that is given his size. Then again if you're getting crazy pressure by hitting on a good pass rusher alongside Hutch (plus a DT in a draft that's very deep at that position) it can work.

Arnold just needs to evolve into a #1. And Rakestraw was a second rd pick. He needs to play. We knew they couldn’t pay everybody

Davis better get his money while he can considering he’s so injury prone
