I am also shocked at The Mauritanian being shut out completely.
My fav of the year probably won’t get its best picture but my second fav may. Although if I’m putting money on it, Mank is the champ this year.
Nominating Daniel for best supporting actor makes no sense the lead in a movie with an arc can’t be the supporting actor.
Other than that, dope choices for the most part
Lakeith campaigned as lead. However, Lakeith only had 3 more mins of screen time than Daniel. Voters can put people where they want.Nominating both Lakeith and Daniel for Best Supporting is stupid as fukk. Lakeith is CLEARLY the lead in that film.
Congratulations to both of them. They killes their roles and the movie was excellent but having both of them in the same category could lead to vote splitting and Daniel CLEARLY deserves it
I say Daniel has the arc not Lakeith. He starts and ends in the same place. The person with the arc is the lead. Daniel’s character goes through a full arc in terms of change. Bill doesn’t change much. They both go through stuff but bill is the same at the beginning as he is in the end.As @Ziggiy said, the lead is is LaKeith. Daniel is the supporting actor. Sure, the movie is in part about Fred Hampton, but it's also in great part about everything the FBI was doing to take him down, via thru the means of LaKeith's character and mostly told thru his lens and experiences.
Having them both for supporting is what doesn't make sense. LaKeith is essentially the main character, Daniel one of (the main) supporting one.
Lakeith campaigned as lead. However, Lakeith only had 3 more mins of screen time than Dainel. Voters can put people where they want.
The real issue is the snubbing of Delroy Lindo in Best Actor or moving him to Best Supp so he can get a nom. In fact Da 5 Bloods got snubbed a lot.
I was just coming in to post that LeKeith had submitted himself for Lead Actor consideration and Daniel submitted for Supporting but The Academy gonna do what The Academy gonna do.
I would disagree. William O'Neal's story was the plot of the movie and what happened to Fred was a part of O'Neal's arc.I say Daniel has the arc not Lakeith. He starts and ends in the same place. The person with the arc is the lead. Daniel’s character goes through a full arc in terms of change. Bill doesn’t change much. They both go through stuff but bill is the same at the beginning as he is in the end.
So much for Sonic the Hedgehog being nominated for Best Picture.
I figure they will cancel each other out and Sasha Baron Cohen will win Best Supporting Actor. Especially since he is the only acting nom for The Trial of the Chicago 7.At the end of the day they both got recognition.
Let's just hope it doesn't ruin Daniel's chances of winning.
He campaigned for lead.I also thought if anyone from One Night In Miami would be nominated it would be Kingsely Ben Adir since his Malcolm X was the emotional center of that movie and his performance was the most compelling to me.
I am also shocked at The Mauritanian being shut out completely.
Couldn't even give Sonic a visual effects nomination. Those b*stards. So much for Sonic the Hedgehog being nominated for Best Picture.
See that’s where I disagree too. By definition, the lead is the person with the arc. Just like in training day, Alonzo was the focus of the movie in some respects and had the larger performance, but he’s not by definition the lead role. Ethan hawke is the lead because it’s his arc. That’s how I feel about this movieI would disagree. William O'Neal's story was the plot of the movie and what happened to Fred was a part of O'Neal's arc.
Just because O'Neal started out as a piece of shyt and ended as a piece of shyt doesn't change that the piece of shyt was the primary focus of the movie.
