They was late to that too.

Y'all keep forgetting how late slow and backwards the south was pre-internet.

But I know people gonna say "nah, the south been doing such and such since Harriet Tubman".
See this is what I be talking about right here. I’ll admit that NY was once the trendsetters for fashion. They popularized Uptowns, Timberlands, Ralph Lauren, Hilfiger, Gucci etc. when rap from their region was on top. Jordans is a universal thing.. We wore the same thing yall wore cuz yall had a strong hold on rap at least in NC. We ain’t slow or late or none of that. If we slow and late stay up there and pay your high rent for your apartments and projects and stop moving down here buying property cause it’s cheaper.

I never saw so many of those damn polo boots until I moved to NC. It’s like all these nikkas shop at Ross, TJ Max, Burlington. I do too,but the goal is not to look like you do.
I order my Ralph from the website. I don’t wear the boots. Only boot I wear is the butter Timberland.

The shoe nicknamed uptowns, is the souths?
I’m from NC they really started getting popular here around 96 people was calling them uptowns or big Nikes here. NY rap was the trendsetters on fashion at the time from Ralph Lauren to Hilfiger to uptowns and Timberlands. We wore what the rappers wore if your parents bought it then once you got a job in high school you was spending your whole paycheck trying to wear what they wore cuz they was on top. Then once the south took over it was white tees and I’m from the south. I never wore reeboks.

You gotta remember a lot of ny brehs move down south cuz they couldn’t afford their trains, backpacks, and high rent. So they move here bring their culture here etc but most of us saw their rappers wearing it. I started rocking Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren cause of the Cuban Linx album.

People keep saying Jordans was a universal staple.
Yea. Everybody liked Jordans but the NEED to have Jordans wasnt a south thing.

When I was out there, they wasn't tripping that much on certain brands like we wear in NY.
Like if u didn't have expensive sht u was a whole bum.

If u didn't have Jordans on down south nobody thought u was a bum ass nikka.
I seen most of the people rocking filas and them classic Reebok's. But they looked nice.

So when people say Jordans was a staple yea. But the craziness of the culture was different everywhere

I just spoke on this yesterday there have been plenty of times people here would be lined up outside waiting on a new release. The stores started letting you preorder them. I don’t know what part of the south you was in but in NC the only Filas I ever seen anyone wear is Grant Hills and Jerry Stackhouse that was mid 90s. People been wearing Jordans here especially in the 90s. By the time Nelly came out with the Air Force One song and everyone and their grandma had them I was done. We wore whatever y’all rappers wore cuz we didn’t really have a voice in the mainstream like that but once you saw cash money and Atl took over they brought their style. I was never a fan of reeboks. I always wore Js or uptowns once that Nelly song came out I was done. We wore air maxes too.
