If we’re keeping it a buck...AEW currently doesn’t have a single star on the roster..Jericho and Cody are as close as they got, but if they’re trying to play the big boy ratings game and be a legitimate 2nd big promotion ...who is supposed to be pulling in these numbers?

we all laughed at the randomness of the blade and the butcher and how they presented these nobody ass jobber looking muhfukkas like they’re supposed to be a big deal...that’s how the whole entire roster looks to most casuals

the roster is filled with guys who are stars within the wrestling world, and that's who AEW is catering towards. the real wrestling fans. not the casuals.

I don't understand why people keep pushing this logic that in order to be a star, you have to have gone thru the casual WWE sports entertainment circuit.

a lot of the hottest wrestlers in the game the past few years, are in AEW.

im the one that made the blade & butcher thread, btw. but that's not representative of their roster as a whole.

they need to get the belt off Jericho, but aside from that, AEW is doing good. yall trying to have them go out like TNA in the early '10s.

Ask a commmon person whos kenny omega

Common people barely know Brock Lesnar and that’s only UFC fans from a decade ago. AEW problem is that they haven’t catered to the fans they DO have. The Elite has lost way too often

In America?

:yeshrug: dude was getting a lot of press in mainstream American publications (not just wrestling mags/sites), selling a bunch of merch at Hot Topic, responsible for the biggest gates in ROH history (and without him running the same venues a year later is like a 70% drop off), and WWE thought he was a star and threw the bag at him. It's really hard to argue that he wasn't the buzz of the industry for a bit there, but he starts his own company and is booked to be a sad boi who would rather be wrestling for a different company and losing every big match to the point where he's now on the same level as Adam Page.:picard:

The only guy that needed to worry about Jeff Jarrett comparisons is Cody, and even with losing to Jericho and letting no names beat his ass post match, he's still managed to Double J himself by getting his own entrance no one else uses (also having TWO entrance themes) and the announcers sucking his dikk on commentary like no one else.

Folks have got to knock it off with this talk of casuals when wrestling doesn't have casual fans like that in 2019. The business overall is ice cold in terms of cultural relevancy and being held up almost exclusively by dedicated older fans.

1. And that's why they won't be around in 3 years.
2. That's even more of an indictment on AEW. You have the "hottest wrestlers in the game" yet you still can't crack 1mil consistently.
There are a couple things I want to criticize AEW for
4. Women's division sucks. They should have put someone in Sasha's ear and told her "blank check" because with her she is someone they could have built around.. let her wait out her contract and then debut her.. massive crossover appeal. Someone like her would have not only solidified the division but you know Bayley would have ended up making the jump too.
I don't think any woman from any promotion is in a rush to go get beat up by a tranny.

If their plan was to appeal to nothing but hardcore wrestling nerds, then their plan was to fail from the jump...a business model built on overpaying a bunch of indy dudes millions to appeal to the YouTube audience of Being The Elite is a money pit that has no chance of being this new oasis of wrestling greatness that’s gonna last...and I never said “star” means “former wwe guy” ... Kenny Omega is in theory the biggest star on the roster and the supposed future of wrestling...for a wrestling fan that hasn’t watched 4 years of NJPW or listen to Dave Metzer talk in riddles a couple hours every week, just based on what he’s done in AEW...do you think he comes off as anything approaching the next legend in wrestling? From week to week from how’s been shown on TV, you think he’s warrants “oh shyt, can’t wait to see what Kenny Omega does next week”...the dudes they have that are supposed to be big deals don’t actually seem like big deals, it’s like they think we’re supposed to be impressed by their indy rep that doesn’t mean shyt in keeping me interested in a weekly show... I can’t watch a reputation

There’s nothing else on TNT besides a declining NBA who’s future depends on how long Lebron decides to play. AEW brings in better numbers to the time slot than they had and they brought a lot of eye balls to the B/R live app. If they keep doing that (even at 600-700k) then they’ll stay around.

Then why doesn't WWE get the same leeway? RAW & SD get better numbers than anything USA & FOX had in those time slots, yet people on here keep saying that the company will die in a few years. Before RAW returned to the USA network USA was struggling to find something that could get the same ratings RAW had, and FOX has said that the most they ever got on a Friday on their network was 1mil. I think NXT would have to average 100k before USA decides to bush them.

They do for Raw, no one ever talks about USA cancelling Raw. If Smackdown numbers dips less than Master chef jr episodes or one off Meghan Markle specials they used to run Friday nights then of course they’re in trouble. We also know Smackdown would last on FS1 for the next 20 years or however long FS1 exists. NXT was cancelled before when it were a game show in 2010/11, and USA cancelled tough enough twice because of ratings. I bet USA will give them further leeway for NXT this go around though because of how important WWE is to them now. AEW would only be in trouble, in my opinion, if TNT got the rights to a better sports property.
