If their plan was to appeal to nothing but hardcore wrestling nerds, then their plan was to fail from the jump...a business model built on overpaying a bunch of indy dudes millions to appeal to the YouTube audience of Being The Elite is a money pit that has no chance of being this new oasis of wrestling greatness that’s gonna last...and I never said “star” means “former wwe guy” ... Kenny Omega is in theory the biggest star on the roster and the supposed future of wrestling...for a wrestling fan that hasn’t watched 4 years of NJPW or listen to Dave Metzer talk in riddles a couple hours every week, just based on what he’s done in AEW...do you think he comes off as anything approaching the next legend in wrestling? From week to week from how’s been shown on TV, you think he’s warrants “oh shyt, can’t wait to see what Kenny Omega does next week”...the dudes they have that are supposed to be big deals don’t actually seem like big deals, it’s like they think we’re supposed to be impressed by their indy rep that doesn’t mean shyt in keeping me interested in a weekly show... I can’t watch a reputation

That would have some point if WWE all didn’t drop immediately after survivor series. Raw had to do a record low rating last night given what happened between Seattle/Minnesota and the 6 man no stakes main event. The question is does AEW have enough to stay on TNT as is, the answer is definitely yes. I remember an interview Paul Heyman did when he was in talks with TNA and he said that TNA has a lot of guys with big names that people know but there were so many that none of them meant anything. He’d fire them all and keep ONE. And make that one legend really special. An example he used was that Alex Rodriguez had 600 career HR but will he hit another 600? Of course he won’t. 100% of the people willing to watch pro wrestling knows Chris Jericho. He was the best legend they could get for that spot and that’s all they need until he retires. Problem is that the star he was supposed to put over was Cody. The fans wanted it, the ratings said so, the story made sense, Cody is at his absolute peak and will never top where he is currently, and Cody is better than anyone in NXT. Now they’re backed into a wall with a dumb ass stip.

the roster is filled with guys who are stars within the wrestling world, and that's who AEW is catering towards. the real wrestling fans. not the casuals.

I don't understand why people keep pushing this logic that in order to be a star, you have to have gone thru the casual WWE sports entertainment circuit.

a lot of the hottest wrestlers in the game the past few years, are in AEW.

im the one that made the blade & butcher thread, btw. but that's not representative of their roster as a whole.

they need to get the belt off Jericho, but aside from that, AEW is doing good. yall trying to have them go out like TNA in the early '10s.

[/QUOTE] AEW and NXT are both catering towards the same demo that’s the problem. So far it looks like the extra exposure on the main roster may have helped nxt get more recognition. Nxt is built around mostly big name Indy guys .

Cody is not better than anyone in nxt :gucci::dwillhuh:. He is The best with storytelling in AEW( him and mox ) but there are a ton of better wrestlers in nxt and AEW.

Folks have got to knock it off with this talk of casuals when wrestling doesn't have casual fans like that in 2019. The business overall is ice cold in terms of cultural relevancy and being held up almost exclusively by dedicated older fans.

It's being held up also by the fact that Live TV is the only thing networks are still willing to pay for. In another 5 years... shyt.. wrestling might be internet only.

There are casuals though just not in the old sense. The ratings we see on sites are for live viewers, they don't account for people who watch on DVR the next day, Hulu, read results online, or just get a wrestling itch in March and then dip out.

There's also people who watch exclusively through YouTube highlights and keep in moving.

I think as AEW continues into 2020 you're going to see more and more that most neckbeards never wanted an alternative because if that alternative ever got really really good they wouldn't be able to complain anymore and that's all most wrestling fans want to do.

Been noticing this ever since the prospect of AEW was a real thing. I remember the threads on multiple forums trashing even the idea that the Jaguars owner was starting a promotion with JR, Jericho and the Elite so the sentiment was there from the start.

As a character and being over, it’s not a question. If I meant ‘in ring’, I would have said so. Even then Cody had a 5 star match in 2019. Nxt?

Adam Cole is better in every way & doesn't have the abilty to book himself to do whatever he fells like. Only arguement you could make is Cody being more over & even then both of them are going head to head & both their shows combined do less than the 3rd hour of Raw.

Meltzer gave Cole vs Gargano at TakeOver New York 5.5 stars a month before & TakeOver XXV 5.25 stars a month after Cody vs Dustin :skip:
