Now that the hype is completely gone, can we admit Kendrick Lamar doesn't have a classic verse

I'm a Kendrick stan but tbh the only legit "really good" feature he's done (not including TDE stuff) is still

can't imagine buying a Kendrick verse. You're probably not gonna get what you're looking for: something simple that fits the track. No More Parties In LA is a great example. It's not bad but just isn't memorable at all, on an album full of wack bars that manage to still have some memorable moments.

Kendrick is always gonna get acclaim, it's Kendrick...:rudy:

But Sing About Me is actually one of the songs that I'd use to vouch for him. Thematically, Sing About Me is a great song cuz of the storytelling and how it was put together. The production, flow, imagery, and character development was well done.

That's what Kendrick is best at, vivid storytelling which does require lyrical skill but most of his bars never stick out.

He's about the whole picture which is good, but if I were to put his lyrics side by side with the example I gave of Hov's verse on SST, you can see the difference in skill level. Jay can say a whole lot more with less.

So the song is thematically "great" and well put together, great flow etc yet you're arguing the lyrics aren't good? Huh? And what does Hov have to do with anything? Hov has never been a memorable rapper when it comes to evocative lyricism and he is not the greatest storyteller. A better comparison would be Nas here.

This is not amazing lyricism now?

I wrote some raps that make sure that my lifeline
Reeking the scent of a reaper, ensuring that my allegiance
With the other side may come soon,
and if I'm doomed
May the womb help my mother be blessed for many moons
I suffer a lot,
and every day the glass mirror
Get tougher to watch; I tie my stomach in knots

And I'm not sure why I'm infatuated with death
My imagination is surely an aggravation of threats

That can come about, ’cause the tongue is mighty powerful
And I can name a list of your favorites that probably vouch
Maybe cause I'm a dreamer and sleep is the cousin of death
Really stuck in the schema of wonderin' when I'mma rest

I think this thread should probably be re-named "Kendrick doesn't have any dope shyt-talking verses that I like." A sentiment I'd still disagree with but hey, do you.

I ask again, name some classic modern verses. As well as your definition of "classic verse" because "a dope verse I can quote" doesn't strike me as a good example. As I said earlier the word is thrown around way too fukking much. A classic verse is something like Rakim on Eric B Is President or Nas on NY State Of Mind. shyt that either marked a point where someone was saying crazy shyt no one else was saying at the time, or marked a moment where someone turned the dial on the previous way things were done lyrically/flow wise/etc.

Or something that seared the fukking earth. Like the last verse on Incarcerated Scarfaces (which btw isn't really "quotable"). I'm not aware of any new-ish rappers who made me feel like that in recent memory. I can think of plenty of dope ass verses that are quotable though.

Yeah your right nobody cares about Kendrick it's not like he had one of the best reviewed album in all of music in the last ten years

Why do you think anyone with 2 functional ears cares about what a "Music critic" has to say about an album?

Let me get this straight: Are you saying Kendrick has no memorable/great verses or that he has no "classic" verses. Define classic verse for me and give some modern (i.e. no Tupac or Biggie) classic verses from the last decade plus.

Normally I don't take this shyt seriously but I'm curious. Let's have a rap nerd discussion for once.

A page has passed and no answer. Define what a classic verse is and give some examples of recent classic verses from the last decade plus.

Also can you name any rappers you consider good or great who do not have classic verses.

A memorable verse. A verse that people that fukk with hiphop know word for word whether they are Kendrick fans are not..

No one is saying Kendrick is :trash: we are saying if he is as great as y'all claim why doesnt any of his material stick to people?

Destroy one of the few advocates we have for real hiphop all because he doesn't choose to buffoon or c00n for money brehs..........

Real Hiphop :dahell:

Most modern rappers can as well. There's plenty of current "street" rappers who say the same shyt Kendrick does in one bar that he takes an entire verse to say with a bunch of filler in between.
Thats whats so infuriating.

Kendrick gets acclaim for literally not being a good ENOUGH writer.

I'm trying may hardest to come up with

"When it comes to sex, I'm sim-I-lar to thriller in Manilla"

Kendrick moment. And mind you I was running around swearing I was a fan until he shat out that mess last year and I snapped to.

Where is his;

"1,2 3 and to the fo" moment?

Where's his "both hands clusty"?

Play any of these songs in the club, guaranteed sing-a-long louder than the music itself.
Terrible posting.

:mjlol:What on earth are you talking about?

#TPC can anyone decipher this nonsense? 'All the GOATs have a verse people can remember' is a subjective statement that holds no weight in the realm of an objective discussion about a rappers merits to lyrically piece a song together.

:russell:Trolls gonna troll.
