Now that the hype is completely gone, can we admit Kendrick Lamar doesn't have a classic verse

Yeah. I am.

Cause you're in here talking down on people as if if they enjoy "Future" they're therefore "anti-intellectual"

So what the fukk are YOU trying to say?

You JUST said that.

I don't give a fukk about Kendrick wasting lyrics or rapping on jazz beats instead of actually pushing the sound forward.

Lets go there little homie. Since you seem to think you have some leg up on anyone else with a pair of headphones because of whats playing and not whats between your ears  :usure:

:mjlol:AHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Future's honest and raw unpretentiousness is what matters.

Right ye because I was the one that took it there right? I'm the one that thinks I have the leg up on people because of the music that I listen to? All I did was point the mirror back at you and you seemed to take some sort of personal offence to it, which is hilarious by the way.

Rapping lyrically over jazz beats in an era saturated with artists all sounding/looking the same is pushing the music forward. Not to mention he's doing it flawlessly and receiving critical acclaim from his peers and the majority of the public but you keep thinking YOUR opinion holds the most merit breh. I don't wanna knock you off your perch

Kendrick blew up on the streets before he was cosigned by backpackers, almost everyone forgets that.
nikkas on this board have this weird thing where they get wet anytime the "streets" are saying anything about an artist.
But Compton was bumping Kendrick back in 08

What streets? Certainly not LA. I was there. He blew up on blogs. Don't confuse the two.

If you held a gun to King Los' head and told him to make a good song or you'd shoot him, we'd be burying another MC in a few days.
I like Lupe a lot, I've been a fan since I was 10, bu these comparisons are rather ridiculous. They take a similiar lane, but they;re different artists.
What you said is true about King Los but I was just using him as example too. He has the best bars on that Control beat by far and yet nikkas will argue you to death that Kendrick would that guy. Despite that he's not half the artist Kendrick is.

And everybody I named was different in their own way but they all had something in common: they all have some cold ass quotable bars and verses.

I once had pride in Drake's artistry but they found those ghost under his sheets breh @ThreeLetterAgency :heh:

How can a rapper be labeled a goat if he doesn't have a verse people can remember word for word? That's not being a very good master of ceremony

I still don't get what metric you guys are using to measure this inability to remember verses other than your own ADD?

Just because an artist is considered bad doesn't mean they can't have "classic songs".
Years from now, I'm sure We'll look back & realize that Chief Keef put out classic music.. Music that impacted the whole of hip hop & the sound of it.

:mjlol::mjlol:

things like this is exactly why 99% of cacs opinions on hiphop is irrelevant... sounds like some complex bullshyt :russ:

Where The Grass Is Blue
hated that song.

Theres "rappity rap" then theres "the industry is cosigning this rappity rap so its great"

And Kendrick keeps just getting these passes cause he has that "younger brother we try to keep out of the streets" vibe going on.

Its fukking insulting to my intelligence as someone who knows how music marketing works.

Nothing about dude is authentic. I mean for fukks sake, hate drake all you want, he knows his sonics WAY better. WAY better.

Kendrick has about as much artistic vision as Britney Spears does.
What's ironic is that's what suited him best, when he was actually spitting:wow:

Then he got on some fake deep pseudo-weird shyt that I believe caused him to focus on storytelling and fast rapping...and here we are

Um, no. We won't.
The song will be immortalised as a party song right alongside the Cupid Shuffle and the Electric Slide.
Drill music is incredibly unmemorable, the only think Chief Keef is likely to be remembered for is "Don't Like" which is overshadowed by the GOOD Music version.

You're just :flabbynsick:

"Classic" is determined by imoact & influence .. Keef has both that. You're just out of touch as fukk.

How frat party bar classics more rightfully placed in the rap canon than hobbit hands' "classic" albums?

s/o to @Thomas for posting some Kendrick lyrics that I feel feature some standout lyricism and bars.

Nosetalgia is by far one of Kendrick's best guest features, way better than Control and I said it back in 2013. Hiiipower and other joints on Section80 also display some of Kendrick's best lyrics.

Imma be honest I fukk with Kendrick a lot but yea homie has yet to have a verse worth remembering or quoting. The only one I kinda remember is the one on the don't kill my vibe remix. I remember Lupe kinda eluded to this and I was so confused y nikkas were in an uproar when he was right.

And
Hov's verse was just an example, wasn't comparing his storytelling skills. And yeah, I'm throwing this "classic" talk out the window right now, I'm talking about quotable bars or rewindable verses.

What I'm saying is there's guys that can paint vivid pictures through storytelling and conceptual pieces (Kendrick's forte) AND still be able to deliver quotable lyrics and verses, an area where Kendrick is slacking in. When I think of rappers like that, I'm thinking legends & veterans, guys like Hov, Elzhi, focused Blu, Common Sense, Lupe etc.

Kendrick is constantly put on or above the level of some of those guys. This is a man that is being heralded as a top tier lyricist, one of the greatest ever since TPAB. I've seen nikkas placing his albums on all-time lists, labeling his albums "classic." I've seen nikkas trash lyrical heavy weights for Kendrick. "Kendrick would murder King Los in a battle :bryan:" (cuz of his Control verse no less :mjlol:) or "Kendrick would wax this nikka on wax". I never Sing About Me didn't have good lyrics, the lyrics are great for the picture he's tryna paint, but there's no standout bars. It's introspective, quality lyricism with a message but his shyt ain't top of the line. Maybe among HIS class of emcees it is but nah...

There's no standout bars, huh? Again, I get the impression you're arguing standout bars have to be shyt talking. Common has more standout bars on Respiration than most of his "I can shyt talk" tracks, even the great ones. I'd compare Sing About Me to Common's verse on that song in terms of having very evocative stand out lyricism.

I'd argue he has a variety of great bars. I'm still blown away at this from Complexion

Dark as the midnight hour, I'm bright as the mornin' sun
Brown skinned, but your blue eyes tell me your mama can't run

Who raps like that today anymore? That's some Jeru The Damaja type crass shyt that makes you go "oh fukk."

At the end of the day dude is a dope rapper and artist, and I find it puzzling as fukk that people strain themselves to find a way to shyt on him. It's either he's the creation of bought critics/media, the "white man" is propping him up, he's overrated and has no interesting music/bars/verses/flows/whatever, etc. Jesus. Is GKMC dope or not? If you wanna say it's not dope that's your opinion, but I'm not gonna hold it in high regard lol. If you don't like TPAB fine, whatever; I "get" why a lot of younger people dislike it. But I'd love to hear whether those people like Wesley's Theory, Alright, TBTB, How Much A Dollar Cost, and the other more contemporary or accessible sounding tracks.
