Over the weekend, longtime Detroit Lions owner William Clay Ford Sr. passed away at his homeand many believed that his son, William Clay Ford Jr., would be the next man to take over the team.

However, in a statement released by the Lions on Monday, it was announced that Ford Sr.’s widow, Martha Ford, would take over controlling interest of the team.

“Pursuant to long-established succession plans, Mr. Ford’s controlling interest in the Lions passes to Mrs. Martha Ford,” the team said in the release. “She and her four children will continue to be involved in the ownership of the franchise, as they have during Mr. Ford’s tenure.”

While Martha Ford will have the controlling interest of the team, it is believed that William Clay Ford Jr. will maintain a prominent role in decision-making. He will remain the Lions vice chairman, a position that he has held since 1995.

By taking over the Lions, Martha Ford joins Virginia Halas McCaskey as the only female principal owners of NFL teams. McCaskey earned controlling interest of the team after her father, George, passed away in 1983. She owns 80 percent of the Bears franchise, along with her children and grandchildren.

Dolphins sign Louis Delmas

Louis Delmas is taking his talents to South Beach.

The Dolphins have signed Delmas, a safety who has played his entire career in Detroit, to a one-year contract. The deal has a maximum value of $3.5 million.

Delmas is an above-average starting safety when he’s healthy, but the problem is that he’s often not healthy. Although he did play in all 16 games last year, he often missed practice time to rest his ailing knees. And he missed 13 games in the two seasons before last.

A 2009 second-round pick of the Lions, Delmas had three interceptions, two sacks and 48 total tackles last season.

Looking at the deals ward, whitner, bethea got and what byrd will get makes old delmas old contract not seem that bad. I don't want to reach in draft for a safety. Chris clemons is last hope at getting quality starter at safety in their prime.

Lions need to go after a vet cb. Tillman, browner, munerlyn or bailey would work. They have 4 young cb, need to see if any of them can play. Would not draft cb in first round because lions need to win some games now and cb take too long to develop

Golden Tate in town according to schefter. CJ, Evans, Tate would be a great wr core.
