Achievement In Every Field of Human Endeavor
From Marc Givler
- First Team OL was Simmons-Jackson-McLaughlin-Montgomery-Fryar
- Second Team OL was Fitzpatrick-Siereveld-Hinzman-Vimahi-Tshabola
- Jeremiah Smith was unbelievable. Made two highlight reel catches downfield and looked like the best receiver on the team. Running on the first unit with Tate on the other side and Egbuka in the slot. If your thought has been that I've overhyped him over the years, I haven't. I've probably undersold him. Everything is trending toward a Larry Fitzgerald/Julio Jones type of freshman year.
- Emeka also had a great day and made a really acrobatic catch with Caleb Downs bearing down on him.
- Ultimately I think OSU fans are going to be really happy that Bryson Rodgers stuck around. He also made quite a few plays today. Looks like one of the top 5 receivers on the team to me.
- I thought the quarterback play today was solid to good. Brown, Howard, Kienholz, and Sayin all had their moments. Brown and Howard were able to make some plays downfield and did a good job moving the team. Kienholz made one of the better throws of the day early in practice threading one about 20 yards down the seam between three defenders to Jelani Thurman.
- The scrimmage sessions when the first team O-Line was out there were highly competitive. The issues offensively seemed to arise when the second team OL was out there, even when going against the 2s and 3s on defense. There's no question that at this point on the calendar the Buckeyes have a lot more depth in the defensive front 7 than the offensive line.
- Both Sonny Styles and C.J. Hicks were noticeable today and split reps with the 1s alongside Simon. Both guys had at least one sack a piece and were able to thwart some outside running plays with their speed and aggressiveness.
- Freshman defensive end Eddrick Houston had a really strong practice. This might have been pre-determined, but later in the practice he got some work with the 2s. Had at least one sack, a couple of run stuffs.
- This is the deepest running back room Ohio State has had in as long as I can remember. All of the guys flashed at various points and the two freshmen James Peoples and Sam Williams-Dixon got a lot of work. Peoples is extremely explosive and broke a couple of long runs between the tackles. The star of the running back show was Judkins though. Quinshon broke two long runs at the beginning of practice before the students came in and then caught a long touchdown and had a brilliant TD run in the redzone later on. Every time he touches the football there is a chance that something special will happen.
- Liked what I saw out of true freshman corner Aaron Scott. Had some chances to go against Jeremiah Smith and didn't look out of place. Had a nice PBU late in practice. Looks confident and acting like he belongs. Noticeably bigger/stronger than he was just back in December when he was at Springfield.
- The highlight of the day for the defense was three straight safeties in a scenario where the offense is given the ball on its own one-yard line. Very, very little drop off when the 2s come in which is a great sign.
