Damn that's not what that article painted it 2 be at all....

false advertising. They need 2 up the $$$

Thing is, that E-1 doesn't pay rent,utilities,food....and now at some locations, they don't even have to pay for wifi..... plus underway they're likely not spending much money either.....and certain pay is non-taxable, and certain states make you tax-exempt based off being in the military.

It's a whole lot different from getting a $700 paycheck in the regular world and having to worry about food,housing,insurance/healthcare etc.

Plus, the way boot camp is set up, the majority of people are not leaving as an E-1...nor will they leave their A/C schools at that rank unless they did something stupid.....newest navadmin mandates that everyone will make E-4 after being in 30 months, most of your tech rates make E-4 before they hit the fleet.....Some of these dudes pipelines let them make E-5 before they even stand a watch on a ship.....and depending on your rate, you're also going to get a bonus for enlisting, graduating boot camp, and one for graduating from A school.

I can't see why anybody would want to join the army/military/navy unless they had absolutely no other options :scust:

Seems like a miserable life..having to wake up early every single day, some a$$hole barking orders at you all day, have to ask permission any time you want to do anything, entire existence revolving around how well you obey orders :scust:

Personally I think the solution to this problem is to downsize the military and for the US to be less involved in foreign conflicts.

I mean the amount of idiots and dumbasses I dealt with during my enlistment always left me wondering how they ever got a diploma/GED (ASVAB is a piece of cake designed for an 8th grade level). I got a 93 and other squids and airdales were talking about I was on some Einstein shyt. I was like TF? shyt was elementary math problems and if/then questions. The true dummies who barely passed got sent to the kitchen.

This new policy is just acknowledging what we all know: the vast majority of enlisted would be a major burden on society if left on their own. Extremely low education, no ambition, no drive. If not for the military keeping them disciplined, employed, and on the move constantly there would be even more fukkery on the streets and in the prisons.

A lot of it is that "test-taking" skills you're parroted in public school do not work on the ASVAB or advancement exams. There is no using people to funnel you into the right answer, no basing your study material around a specific test with pre-scripted answers....picking C if you're not sure :heh:

As much as this site talks about not being able to buy a home, how college is overpriced and a bad investment, and the importance of learning real skills, I would imagine folks wouldn’t be so adverse to joining the military.

not a real long-term solution. i doubt the discipline of this demographic is going to hold up in that environment. if they had a social worker look into what was going on and then help them with that, then they might be useful. of course, that would be expensive and time consuming...

I’m good in that military life :hubie:regardless of the benefits. Some I’ve known from returning back haven’t been the same again and that’s me saying that respectfully.

once you graduate boot camp and your initial skills pipeline , it is no different than any other job breh. Only big differences you wear a uniform to work every day and some people don’t even do that, depending on their assignment.

in fact , I say it’s easier than most jobs as military jobs are not production based. If a military shop, office or center is slow (and your Senior Staff arent pricks) then mad people are not in the office or getting out early or going to school or whatever.

It’s really been a great time to do a term if you are scared of war. We’ve been out of Afghanistan for years now. There’s nothing going on that the us is really gonna get into. nikkas would be in there soaking up benefits.

All it did was give a path into the Navy for interested people who'd be eligible for a lot of rates but were not qualified based off not having a Diploma or GED....and likely someone who's exhausted most other employment options or realizes they can't afford to stop working to go get a GED....or whatever living situation they're in is not stable/wont be in the near future

That's not as large of a selection pool as you'd think in this country.
