@Don Ibiza Ibrahimovic aye breh, I know you love Okada and all but his Ace "style" is getting exposed badly in this tournament. He really is a Cena-like Ace in the ring instead of a legit puro one...

Dunno if I can say the work is getting exposed. It's the booking. In the Elgin and Sanada matches the crowd was THIRSTY for the upset. Okada hasn't eaten a proper G1 upset since Makabe and Kojima in 2013. Now, you can say he should alter his approach to suit the ultimately dominant booking, which is fair. But if he drops a fall to Juice or EVIL working the same way people gonna call it a classic and potential match of the tournament :yeshrug:Problem is there's no reason to have any faith in that happening. :francis:Everyone gets tired of someone who wins all the time. People felt the same way about Tana just a couple of years ago

This G1 was always gonna be about Kenny and Kota, though. They're absolutely trying to one up each other day after day, which is crazy given Kenny has a history of being lazy as shyt if the night didn't matter. But he got something to prove here.

The booking been exposed breh, you know that :sas1:

And yeah, my point is he's gotta find a better dominant formula. It's too much like Cena in a context were it doesn't work as well as it does in WWE. Something similar did happen to Tanahashi, and the backlash was justified in that case too imo.

Facts all around. It is what it is :yeshrug: I don't think there's any way to win all the time and make it compelling always.

Thinking about it, the only truly dominant runs I wouldn't levy with this same criticism are Joe's and Kobashi's. Kobashi had the benefit of a god-tier rogues gallery and a deep pool of opponents, Joe excellent opponents as well but also impeccable booking.

when you got a crowd cheering for Elgin damn near dying wanting him to win, it's time to realize you might have gone too deep into #Make___LookStrong territory

I must be in the minority of people who's okay with Okada going as strong as he has been, largely because it's just going to be an even bigger rub for whoever beats him. My guess is it's Juice. Hell, the way he's been popping off about Kojima and disrespecting him it might be him tonight.

I have no issue with dominant Aces as long as you make it compelling (something Gedo has failed for a while now). But my issue with Okada is with how he wrestles as an ace. It's a formula I'm not fond off when it comes to puro. I think he can do better because he's crazy talented :manny:

The problem is he does not look strong at all if he eats offense all match long and needs to hit his finisher twice to even beat some midcarders properly. That's why the crowd starts cheering guys like Elgin and Sanada over him, because why wouldn't you root for the guy who has the champion on the ropes? :dwillhuh:

I feel you in the sense of it getting boring seeing one guy win all the time, it's like rooting against the Patriots or the Lakers. But the way I see it, Okada is the champion and he's having the best matches so in kayfabe he should be hard to beat. IMO he's the best they have at carrying an opponent so I can't hold it against him that they all end up looking decent to good, even Cody.

The Rainmaker thing is possibly a storyline where they can set up his inevitable championship defeat as a situation where the move lets him down. Even if that's not the case, it's not like Okada is the only top guy whose finisher isn't as protected anymore. Naito needed multiple Destinos to put Elgin away at New Beginning and he needed two Destinos to beat Kota Ibushi and Juice who's never even held a title. Yuji Nagata kicked out of one last night and he's 0-4.

What I personally like about Okada getting booed is that he's responding to it by upping his heel ante and giving us flashes of that cocky a$$hole he was back in 2012. It's a good reminder of the depth and range he has as a performer when he starts being an arrogant prick in response to the crowd booing him in favor of the underdog like the Shibata match. Just like Kento the other prodigy he can work babyface and heel.

I mean, I love this kind of stuff. Last night he walked right through the ring after Kojima got the pin. Naito is getting cheered like hell, and since this year started so is Kenny. I'm glad to see one of their top guys actually getting booed. If Okada getting everyone's full offense and still winning gets us this guy where he's bucking on legends post-match then I'm all for it. The matches are still flames.

Okada put Juice over in the same interview that he shyt on Kojima.

On Juice Robinson:

I am very excited. (Unlike Kojima) Juice has a future. Also, it is rare for me to fight with wrestlers who are younger than me in the G1. I can see that Juice is acquiring mores skills everyday. The match will show if he has a bright future or not.

Plus Pulp Friction is a really protected finisher unlike the Rainmaker and Destino right now because it's the most important part of giving Juice credible wins. I can see him using it to put Okada away in a big upset. It's possible.

Hard to argue that Ibushi/ZSJ didn't make the right choice by not signing with WWE. At the same time, it's hard to say how different the current cruiserweight division would be being built around ZSJ/Ibushi instead of a shythead like TJP for months.

I enjoyed Sanda vs Suzuki a lot more than Okada/Omega vs Suzuki. MiSu is at a point in his career where a match punishing a dude a few rungs and years below him is going to be better than Suzuki vs a top tier main event guy in 2017.

I also enjoyed the Omega/Tanga match, which seems like a stable breaking match considering Tama's constant shyt talk and explicity shytting on The Elite.

Then you have Elgin vs Okada, which I'm still genuinely stunned that Eglin won me over, as his time in PWG/ROH made me think he was dogshyt (although ROH also did the same thing to Ciampia who then put on like 4 WWE MOTYC in a single year).

My issue every year with the G1 is that it's just too fukking much. They run through 2 years of main event level matches in 3 weeks, and that's even when you're cherry picking matches. It's way too much wrestling in a short period that I'm always burnt out 3-4 days into it.
