Saw in December. The ending was perfect, but the middle was dragged, badly, and Del Toro's set design and script undercut a really strong noir plot.

This. People complaining about the ending being predictable need to understand a movie doesn’t need a crazy twist to be a good movie. It was telegraphed pretty clearly what his fate was going to be. They literally had a whole scene explaining how to turn someone into a geek
Lmao. The acting in the final scene was amazing.

I absolutely love Del Toros style and his stories. The darkness. The production design. The second half slowed way down, but still had some Del Toro touches.

Overall I enjoyed it. It was like my favorite Noir stories mixed in with Todd Brownings Freaks.

I did leave confused about Cate Blanchett character's motive behind the double cross. Not sure if she just wanted the money, or wanted to get back at him for humiliating her during his show.

That’s the part that I either missed or they screwed up. I can’t remember him mentioning it to her before she asked him to elaborate.

I also don’t know why all off a sudden he just started hitting the bottle so hard? Even while slumming at the carnival he didn’t get twisted.
