Igbos and Yorubas, although there are many tribes inbetween live amongst each other and intermarry a lot...
i know in lagos a lot of Igbo people speak yoruba better than Igbo ....
the north of the country is mostly muslim (the hausa) and the south is mostly Christian Yorubas, Igbos and hundreds of other tribes inbetween
The issue really deep down has to do with money, power and politics ....
on a day to day basis people go about there business , shyt just started to pop off when Boko Haram started burning Churches up North , a lot of Christians felt that the government wasnt doing enough and that in itself caused tensions ... also there has never been an Igbo president so a lot of Igbo people felt marginalised by the North
Im just talking about recent years , not the cicvil war ....
my tribe is Yoruba, we are in a unique position because while Igbos are almost all christian and hausas are almost all muslim we are about 50% christian 50% muslim, it is very common to have muslims and christians in the same family, most yorubas still practice native religious practices and customs as well
my dads brother is a muslim, and my brothers wife is muslim while we are christians ... because of this Yorubas are extremely tolerant when it comes to religion ... to Yorubas its native tradition and custom first religion second, we practice all our native customs and festivals regardless of what religious denomination we are
From our point of view we see things in practical terms , for the most part Northerners have held the presidency...... but the most underdeveloped region of the country is the North .... for all there power they have done nothing with it
The bottom line is, the big boys at the top just want a bigger slice of the cake .... its all smoke and mirrors
