Henry Louis Gates actually has more European DNA than Russ. He says in the discussion he's at nearly 50% European. But his phenotype doesn't show it.

The average Black American is roughly 80% African and 20% European. So Russ is on the higher side when it comes to white ancestry but not by that much. For example, Henry Louis Gates is roughly 50/50 when it comes to African and European ancestry and I doubt anyone would call him mixed.

A lot of Black Americans have a similar genetic profile to Russell Wilson. They just don't show it in their phenotype as much as Russ. That's just a quirk of genetics. Your phenotype doesn't neccesarily always match your genotype.

When I say Russell Wilson's entire family has been black since slavery, I'm talking about the fact Russ doesn't have any recent ancestors that were fully white. Watch the video I linked. Its fascinating. Russ come from a long line of impactful black americans.

Both on his mother and father's side, Russ descends from black pioneers. It just so happens most of his black ancestors mixed with other black folks that had roughly the same genetic profile. Think of like how Steph Curry is light skin not because he's half white but rather both his parents are both light skin.

Almost all of Russell Wilson's white ancestry came during slavery. His family tree just included a lil more light skin folks than the average black american. His genetic profile didn't come having more white folks in his family tree.

I mean.. 20% is nearly three times "7" which is what YOU thought the average was. Which would mean most of us are all 2x to 3x "whiter" than you initially thought. Him having an extra 10-15% w/ 2 black parents dont put him in a seperate class in most ppls eyes.
