the spacing is shooting is making the game less alluring tbh. That and so many stars sit out for the first few games or dont play at all.

We see what Ohtani is doing for baseball, star power does carry weight: especially star power that does generational feats.

In terms of a true superstar carry, Wemby was supposed to be the next LeBron in terms of generational impact, but outside of his early rookie year (and the way they ended nearly in last place), the hype simply isn't there compared to the year before he got drafted.

I think maybe if he ever gets close to contending they may be able to get a re-spark.

Like I mentioned in the previous post though: three point shooting dominates the game of basketball. Problem with Wemby is he isn't a great three point shooter. Actually, he's pretty well below average.

The big issue is, following up LeBron is going to be insanely difficult. There's no clear hand-off either like there was Jordan > Kobe/LeBron. It could have been Curry, but LeBron and him are basically retiring at the same time.

I briefly touched in the observations thread but the Spurs are also just so far away from being a competitive team as well

Kobe got drafted to a Lakers team that was already good, so from jump he’s playing in big games with stakes. Bron had the Cavs competing for a playoff spot by Y1.

Steph’s hype didn’t really take off until the Warriors got competitive as well

That’s why I get it, they’re trying to spotlight him by giving the Spurs these slots but also they’re just not inspiring to watch

Ant Man shooting 13 3s a game.. we thought this man was Jordan part 2 now he’s chucking like everyone else in the league. Nobody wants to watch 32 Boston Celtics :yeshrug:

No style variance between the teams just shoot 3s and play no defense.

Last Night I seen Chet pass up a wide open layup to kick it to a nikka name Cason Wallace for 3...they closed out on him and he kicked it to another cat who's name I never seen before only for him to shoot another 3 and miss

Shortly after I just turned off my TV.

Yeah, that's the way I see it.

The sooner they can get to contention, the more time they have until hype on Wemby wears off. They need to find "winning basketball" players to put around him, hopefully Castle is that mold.

For Wemby, I think can also make more changes to his game. Being very honest, I think he needs to stop taking so many threes. Not because "bring back centers" but because it's honestly not his strength. It won't translate to many wins and that's what will ultimately matter when it comes to hype.

I think he needs to be more like Giannis (of course adding weight like that would be ideal) and if anything focus on the mid range to keep a defense more honest because he does have an element of finesse to his game. I simply don't think taking 3's will do the team any favors. If this guy keeps chucking threes while other teams' shooters are going nuclear, they're not going to be winning many games and that only kills the superstar hype the NBA can use.

Games on NBC will fix this @K-Apps

Maybe, it’s gonna depend on matchups, especially this time of year with the WS (likely won’t be have the attention/hype this one had). The NBA got a new TV deal, they are fine overall from a media standpoint. Besides, most scripted shows and non-football sports league on cable would kill to get those ratings weekly during their regular season.

shyt, Shai put up 6 treys in the first quarter alone…all bricks. Probably took 3 dribbles total. Didn’t even think about driving to the lane which was open for 4 of those attempts
