It shows just how much echo chambers on the internet have done a number on them more than anything else.
Throughout the last 25+ years, TV ratings, relatively, have always been down over the first quarter of the season. This isn't some recent phenomenon as if this just started happening recently. Add to the fact that cable viewership has decreased by nearly 40% since 2010, so it only makes sense that TV ratings are lower than they were, in a vacuum, purely because of that. Nearly every single medium has had a drop in TV ratings because of that. Not just the NBA.
Furthermore, that "
Ratings are down nearly 50% drop from 2012" is actually based upon a Right-wing puppet agency that has an axe to grind about the "woke" NBA. It's not even remotely close to nearly 50%. The number is exaggerated by over 20%.
It's using a full season from 2012 and comparing it to a small portion at the start of this season; add to the fact, that full season in 2012 was actually when the season began on Christmas Day because of the lockout. Go figure.
ESPN’s NBA Saturday Primetime on ABC series was its most-watched in five years, since the 2018-19 season, according to Nielsen. The 2023-24 campaign averaged 3,133,000 viewers, up 12 percent from last year (2,801,000).
