It's regular TV, of course people who don't have access to Internet and cable (SOME rural areas, ALL county jails in the country, SOME prisons, ect) will be watching.

It's hella crazy to compare something that comes on regular TV the majority of the time to something that ONLY comes on cable the first 2 months of the season.

I think it's dumb as hell the NBA doesn't air on weekdays on regular TV and all day on weekends on regular TV. At least get 2 Wednesday games on NBC for the new contract.

imo I think one issue is that lots of the stars of the last era are retired or about to retire, and a lot of the newer stars haven't emerged yet fully for one reason or another.

But the bigger issue might be the attitude around the regular season. It's all about the playoffs and with the expansion most teams get in now. Lot less stakes in the regular season, as evidenced with the load management etc.

Great point. If there is 50M of us in the US, 25M male. Of the 25M males, 12M are adults. If only 1-2M people are watching a live game, how many are black?

That number still seems low as shyt but there are too many entertainment options. Plus how many people still have espn and TNT.

I’m willing to bet world wide, 1-3M people are bootlegging any given nba game on any given night. Plus you look at the YouTube numbers of the replays from the top three channel within 24 hours, the number are easily between 4-8M views.

We currently live in a binge/short attention span world. 9-12 minute cuts of nba games gets you catch up with your favorite team. You may catch a broadcast game a few times a year and go to a few games a year as well.

82 games a year is a lot. If Silver was smart, he would have cut a deal with ABC to guarantee a weekday of NBA (Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday) doubleheader and Saturday/Sunday. That way people know they can watch great games twice a week and plan for it. Of course this is for the casuals, because Coli Brehs got league pass on deck and are watching their favorite team every night plus the Rockets, Spurs and Hawks.

Similar to music, the scarcity mindset rules, which is less = more (value).

Like those mumble mixtape rappers dropping 4 to 10 projects a year, but none of their fans can marinate their songs due to time restraints, compared to a Kendrick style MC that drops once every 2 to 3 years and everyone cherishes his every track ever dropped.

NBA dropping 82 games per season for every team is damn near impossible for everyone to watch. NFL only done 3 days out of the week for the regular season (Sunday, Monday, Thursday) improves anticipation and spacing out time to watch them.

ABC has zero interest in doing this outside of Saturday night. Hell, NBC is gonna give you Tuesday and they're probably not even giving you 2 games.
