10 years is crazy. What Amazon should do is stream all of the games on Twitch like they did with NFL, and allow streamers to costream them with their chat. This will cut down heavily on illegal streams and allow them to chase a young demographic.

Basically the Inside Crew is likely to be on NBC or Amazon if WBD can’t renew. But interestingly, if TNT gets a reduced package that it could share with NBC or Amazon

I highly doubt they go to ABC. they already been purging on air talent for the past few years. they most likely would be going to NBC or amazon I'm thinking.

NBCUniversal’s reported bid to air a package of NBA games in the league’s new media rights deal “threatens to eclipse” longtime partner Warner Bros. Discovery, according to Oliver Darcy of CNN.com. Industry insiders have said that it is “important” for TNT and WBD to retain the NBA broadcast rights, as WBD has “made significant investments hinging on maintaining the rights to the games.” TNT has “built a programming slate around the NBA games,” and Basketball HOFer Charles Barkley just signed a new, 10-year deal in 2023 with WBD. Moreover, WBD just struck a deal with Disney and Fox to launch a “forthcoming sports super-streamer.” Losing the rights to NBA games could “throw aspects of that business partnership into question.” Darcy notes that WBD's flagship streaming service, Max, has been “advertising live sports to consumers as a key differentiator from other platforms,” and losing the NBA would be a “big blow to that pitch.” Darcy writes that WBD “continues to sit at the negotiating table” and has been having “productive conversations.” But given how “cost-conscious” WBD CEO David Zaslav and CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels have been in their management of the company, the “current state of play is surely not a welcome development, which is reflected in the company's share price.” A potential loss of the NBA rights could “not come at a worse time for Zaslav,” who has “struggled to sell Wall Street on his vision for a one-stop, one-size-fits-all streamer to go toe-to-toe with Netflix” (CNN.com, 5/1).

PAY TO PLAY
: CNBC’s Alex Sherman noted the $2.5B per year offered by NBCUniversal "may be more money than what Warner Bros. Discovery may want to pay." However, the question is can WBD "truly live without the NBA." Sherman: "The NBA not only brings in advertising for that company, but it also helps with carriage revenue for all of Warner Bros. Discovery’s networks. Not even just TNT and TBS, which carry the NBA, but all of the networks -- Discovery, HGTV, Food Network. All of these channels are negotiated and bundled together, so that’s what the value of the NBA means for that company” (“Last Call,” CNBC, 4/30).

END OF THE SERIES? SI’s Jimmy Traina wrote chances are, if NBC gets the package from TNT, that “would be the end of the greatest sports studio show of all time” -- “Inside the NBA” with Barkley, Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O'Neal. Maybe NBC would “make a play for all four hosts,” but normally, when a network acquires a package, it “wants to put its own imprint on it.” Plus, “just snatching up the foursome won’t be that easy.” Johnson does other work for Turner and has worked for them “for basically his whole professional life.” But putting Johnson, Smith, Barkley and O'Neal “on a streaming service for regular season games that hardly anyone is going to watch will, quite frankly, suck.” Traina wrote it is “not just about the four personalities.” The reason “Inside the NBA” has “become a legendary show has just as much to do with producers, directors and all the behind-the-scenes people as the on-air talent.” If Amazon or NBC brought over all four guys, the show “might be similar, but it won’t be the same” (SI, 4/30).

ugh, I HATE watching sports on amazon. there's no ability to flip between channels or use multiview like I do with apple tv+ or on yttv where I watch TNT/ESPN content.

The lack of last channel (which YT TV recently added, and I use all the time) / channel flipping while watching a game on Amazon is a common sticking point. However, if you're using YouTube TV, and have Amazon, you can use the Alexa button on your remote if you have a fire TV stick or the Google assistant on your remote if you have a Chromecast / Google TV and say "go to *channel of your choice*" and it'll instantaneously change the channel.

You can also hit the home button and just click on the recently watched channel which will pop up in the first row since you were just watching it, which is what it does for me on my fire stick.

If you (editorial you) :flabbynsick: and can't operate without the last channel button on the remote but are able to watch the game on Amazon Prime, it's no excuse for not being able to hold a button for 2 seconds and say "go to ABC."

I have apple tv's only. there's no way to realistically flip between amazon prime and another app without it having to reload occasionally.

YTTV also recently added multiview for NBA/NHL games, which is really dope, cuz u can watch like 3 games at a time. apple tv+ has had this feature for awhile as does the ESPN app.

all YTTV needs to do is add multiview where you can pick up to 4 channels of your own choosing and watch them simultaneously instead of only giving us a couple channels to pick from.

True but I won't lie... the thought of having HDR enabled NBA games like they did the TNF games has me intrigued :ehh:
