There are only so many games a person can watch and reputation really counts more than anything when it comes to defensive recognition. Chris Paul has lost a step and missed a bunch of games but won the guard vote by a landslide. Kobe got a bunch of his nominations the same way.

This is voted on by the coaches.

I'm sure they watch more film than you.

Giannis: 7drpg, 1.6spg, 1.9bpg, 3.5DBPM, 1.86DRPM
Kawhi: 4.7drpg, 1.8spg, .7bpg, 1.5DBPM, 1.25DRPM
Giannis the better rim protector, one of the best in the league

Giannis the better overall defender

Opponents drop 5.1% in FG% when guarded by Giannis, only .8 when guarded by Kawhi. Huge gap.

Kawhi is great, but this might have been his worst season defensively.

I hate when people try to use stats to determine who is better than who on defense. These numbers are always faulty.

I just watch the games. And from watching the games when Andrew Wiggins matched up with Kawhi vs Giannis, there wasn't even a comparison. Against Kawhi he was not even able to dribble. Kawhi ripped him nearly every play and locked him up with ease. When Wiggins played Giannis, he scored at ease when matched up one on one. He was able to beat him off the dribble easily. Now this was only a couple of games but the difference between the two players was stark for me.

Giannis might be the better rim protector, but Kawhi Leonard is still the better defender by a long shot.

Watch the games.

Chris Paul shouldn't be on that list. Old man Tony Allen is almost a lock for the one of the defensive teams.

No, mainly because voters are stupid in that they don't acknowledge something until it's painfully obvious. Now that Rudy is on the list they will keep him there regardless, just like they had kept DeAndre Jordan there despite the fact Gobert should have been All-Defense last year.

In terms of defensive impact, he could be better than Gobert next year, but it's doubtful he'd make it.
