should've been on the album!!!
i'm sure label politics prevented him from doing so!!!

This universal apartheid
I'm hog-tied, the corporate side
Blocking y'all from going to stores and buying it
First L.A. and Doug Morris was riding wit it
But Newsweek article startled big wigs
They said, Nas, why is he trying it?

this line always stands out to me and perfectly describes the state of hip hop.

all the big wigs at the music labels saw what was coming. nas prolly played the album for them and they were like "why is he making music that kicks knowledge to the black community?:lupe:"

So what if my pants sag with my hat turned back?
The same swag got our merchandise flying off the rack
Marketing companies is hiring blacks
Fresh hip-hop lingo for your campaign ads

Controversy surrounds who could say it and when
Some nikkas are full time, some play and pretend
So fukk that, no apologies on the issue
If it offends you it's meant to, it's that simple

the one thing white folks hate to hear the most is the truth:banderas:

Man I remember '08 it was dominated by Wayne, Tip and Kanye. I remember the controversy behind the album title, and Nas and Kelis promoting the album, and Nas even said how people in the White House called Def Jam about changing the title of the album.

The fact that this album dropped in '08 an election year, a year in which the first black President was elected is really symbolic. The fact that the album just broke down the entire black experience from slavery to modern times, a lot of people right now who thought racism was dead are starting to rethink that after all that's occurred this year. What happened out in Staten Island, and what's happening right now in St.Louis has really brought race issues back to the spectrum. This is pretty much the perfect album to bump in times like these.

8.5 out of 10, one of the most powerful albums in terms of themes since It Takes A Nation... :wow:

Here is an album that will always be revlevant and because of the issues that it addresses, will always be rememebred. Here is one that will get better and better with time and while it might not be a banger. To today's standards, people will always refer to this album and a lot if its content every time something ill happens in the black community regarding race.
