It's better than Ilmatic. This pen game on TLT is much more potent than in Illmatic. He was flowing like the GOAT he is.

yup... this album finally clicked for me This year too... crazy... since it hit me it all i been listening to along with It Was Written(nas 2nd best project)

i remember this and I always had doubts about this being anything official. Or if Nas had anything to do with putting this together. For starters, Film, which is an AMAZING piece of work was done as a Red Bull promotion. Depending on what version of It Wasn’t You was on it, the popular version we all love was a Dirty Harry Blend. I don’t think anyone has heard the original version. One on One, another dope piece, was part of a movie soundtrack. Even Street Dreams pt 2 was something remixed by Pete Rock.

there was a LT2 release scheduled for 2003 that Sony scrapped. That was supposed to include studie freestyles and studio remixes. I’d like to also note that, I clearly remember seeing early track list for the original LT that also included

YOU DON’T KNOW ME
MY WORST ENEMY IS ME
YOUR MOUTH GOT YOU IN IT

I personally don’t think these three songs, if added to the original LT, would have hurt it one bit. I think it would’ve been better. I even think that either one of these songs could replaced EVERYBODY’S CRAZY since it was released earlier as part of the STILLMATIC bonus tracks.

Nas tried to put out LT2 a few times before we got the version we got

In 03 like you said

In 05 before he officially left Sony

In 2011 was the closest but Nas wasn’t happy with the terms Def Jam set and the budget.

Lost Tapes is special but its not better than Illmatic, It Was Written, Life Is Good, Kings Disease 2 or KD3

Have to have a rare disagreement with you, the only one that even comes close to Lost Tapes on that list is Illmatic and IWW, and personally i have it above It Was Written.

In terms of Nas career and writing nothing encapsulates what makes him great like a song like Purple, Doo Rags You Gotta Love Ir or My Way, i feel like Lost tapes has some of the best writing of his career and some of the best writing in rap history, its a near perfect release with a few contenders for Nas top 10-20 songs, moreso than any of the albums you named apart from his very first two.
