Lupe stans y’allAnybody that paid attention to hip hop 10-15 years ago knew that Lupe was the next evolutionary step & the continuation of lyrical titan mainstream MC’s like Nas & Hov until Chilly & the FNF foundation fell, Atlantic Records sabotaged him, and he was black balled cuz of his political statements regarding Obama.
Not to say Lupe woulda became either one of those dudes because he wouldn’t have. But everybody knew, especially back then, how special of a talent he is.
Brehs, this is a crazy example of how your opinion and taste for a song can change over time.
Jarreau of Rap is quickly becoming my favorite song on this album. Definitely my most played, just barely beating out Art of It, Lost Freestyle, and Tanasia.
The horns on the 3rd part of the song
This song is really something special. I'm not even talking Nas's ability to ride the harmony with his delivery, which is ill enough in itself. But how they wove Al Jarreau's vocal samples in and out of the beat along with that trumpet by Keyon just has me everytime I play this shyt.
I completely understand why this song ain't for everybody, but to those brehs who keep saying this track is an automatic skip, y'all missing out.
Let the track marinate a few times and appreciate the artistry of it. You'll be soon enough.

Don't care if Jesus said Lupe reminded him of him. Lupe trash.
