Alot of these hipster music blogs were never going to give a new Nas album a glowing review in 2019. To them a new Nas album just isn't culturally relevant unless it features more of a contemporary sound or artists that fit a certain image (Dev Hynes, Frank Ocean, Solange, etc). Those artists are cool and I even like some of their stuff but let's be realty, none of us want a Nas album that sounds like that. Add the Me Too allegations in the mix (even if they are BS).. This kind of album will never be praised outside of real rap fans.
I check out Sterogum and they only mentioned the album once and it was to link to the wackest song on the album (Royalty) because of the Frank Ocean connection.
They do the same think to classic rock as well. The new Raconteurs (which was heat btw) got panned by all these same outlets because it doesn't fit their image of what's cool in 2019
