I wouldn't expect another Nas album for at least a year after LT2. December is typically a dead zone for album releases; very hard to get a release date unless you're a star. There are rumors Rihanna and Adele may be dropping this fall or winter, possibly November/December. Also rumors about new Kendrick in that time period. No way Nas or anyone else of note drops then lol.

I think this LT2 album will be what fans want and satisfy folks for a year. Then hopefully we get the re-worked Nas Album Done album next July or September. That's the dream, at least.

As much as I want two Nas albums in one year, I think he should wait until next year as well. Nasir dropped and after a bad roll out and lots of criticism, Nas still held the Lost Tapes 2 and the New album back. If the Lost Tapes 2 is as good as we all hope, Nas could ride it out and and go into next summer on a big and with a buzz.

Nas might not drop cause Rih n Adele are dropping? fukk is you saying.
Any true nas fan knows the man is consistantly unpredictable.
If he doesn't drop, it sure won't be because of the reasons you listed.

The 2003 version is undoubtedly all Columbia material. We may never get that specific material as it seems like Nas likes the Lost Tapes to serve as an expression of his creative process from the most RECENT previous album
Recording sessions. So, if in theory, Nas has entire albums worth of songs with Timbaland, Swizz, and Salaam Remi; we’ll hear those joints on a LT before we hear joints that are almost TWENTY years old at this point

I’m just a greedy hip hop fan that wants to hear more Nasty Nas era music. If petitions worked, I’d petition Sony to put them shyts out. No disrespect to the God or The Lost Tapes 2 because I know that shyt if going to be dope. I just know that we were supposed to have them shyts 16 years ago and some again 10 years ago and now we may never get any of them. :mjcry:

Nas dropped 5 straight albums in the winter including 3 that dropped in December.

Nastradamus (Nov 99)
Stillmatic (Dec 01)
Gods Son (Dec 02)
Streets Disciple (Nov 04)
Hip Hop Is Dead (Dec 06)

Nas was a much bigger artist at the time, and CD sales were higher in general. Now unless you're guaranteed to do 300k+ you probably aren't getting a December date, especially if the industry expects someone big to drop.

Times have changed. For the longest, labels would always wait till the 4th quarter before they dropped projects from their biggest/high profile acts.

Looking back it made sense. For some record companies, loading up and releasing multiple hyped projects in that 4th quarter would save them from being in the red for the entire fiscal year.

How Lost Tapes 2 is recieved is probably a good indication of what Nas decides to do with whatever he does next and thats what im curious about is that.
If it does well in terms of recievening a positive response he may drop more or feel confident to release a proper album (or Nas Album Done)

But I also dont know whats considered a success for him in 2019. The first Lost Tapes didnt sell a lot and it wasnt made to be that type of album, it was a compilation of cuts just thrown out, I cant imagine this will make that much noise like that . You hope this one gets a positive reaction but I also feel like people judge Nas even harsher now than when he was releasing albums regularly (Personal stuff, plus more of the narrative about Illmatic being the standard he should measure up to, plus you know people were expecting something from his prime prime era)

I will admit I would rather hear and have songs like The Rise & Fall, and all the unreleased tracks from 97-2003, but you never know how that would play. A lot of that us pure nostalgia, and just trying to channel those early days of my teens. Would I really rather have "Wanna Play", and "Day Dreamin", rather than hear new Nas tracks from 2006 on? Probably not. But, if you had those tracks and 5 unreleased DOE/I Am sessions tracks? Maybe. I wish we could have both, but the whole process if somewhat exciting and more fun on an album release than I can recall in a decade.

Can we agree that after all these years that "lost tapes" is a unique concept that only worked for Nas?

Anytime Spider Loc, Tru Life, or 50 Cent release or announce a project called "lost tape" or "lost tapes" hip hop heads immediately think of TLT1.

People straight facedly argue that Lost Tapes is even better than Stillmatic let alone stuff like I am and Nastradamus. It sold well for a compilation. LT2 has been in demand and talked about for a very long time.

Nobody else has pulled off what Nas did

True. The hype we have created on the board and all the speculation including the trip down memory lane, through all of Nas’ music is fun. The 97-03 Nas era should still be loaded with gems and they should all be heard.

The G.O.D. was terrible lol

I liked p*ssy Kills, but it doesn't really play well now, and was always a little awkward and limited, in terms of Nas great storytelling moments. Good twist ending, if I remember correctly.

This was largely unlistenable in 2002

The GOD is one of Nas' best worst songs...i always liked it but i wouldnt rank it ahead of many of his songs....

We can't really compare the past to now. Fourth quarters aren't necessarily for big acts anymore. Artists can drop music whenever. The album experience is no longer the same. Artists can do things with an album that they couldn't in the past. You can release an album today digitally and add songs over time. You can drop an album without promo. You can promote music in ways that you couldn't before.

Nas is a legacy act. His music is now for fans and core Hip Hop listeners. He doesn't have to do things that new artists would. If he announces he was dropping his new album at midnight or simply put a link to purchase his new album in his IG bio at midnight (without announcing it), it would be big news.
