Nas really got 5 classics. Name which other rapper that got 5 classic rap albums. Honestly.

I swear rap is the only medium where the word classic gets passed around more than Bernice Burgos at a sheikhs camels birthday party.

No, nas doesn’t have 5 fukking classics, No, Kendrick doesn’t have 4 classics. No, Lil Wayne doesn’t have any classics. No 4:44 isn’t a fukking classic. Not even close. Nas has 1, jay has 2.Just because it’s a classic to YOU. Doesn’t make it a classic in the medium it resides. What’s the difference between a good album, great album, masterpiece and classic? Alot of great movies come out every year, you don’t hear movie enthusiast call all them shyts classics. You know why? I swear Hip-hop is so fukking trash :hhh:

i think a masterpiece is 5 mics
But a classic doenst have to be a perfect 5, just a great album you can go back and listen to a lot and remember how big it was. In that respect I guess dudes have many

Again it depends on the perspective. I feel like people work themselves to think things are either classic or trash too and no in between

It’s just weird man. I view classic as an amazing album, that has some kind of redeeming quality in turn causing it to continuously find a way back to the masses. RD for example. Amazing album. Timeless production, the lyrics aren’t dated and can be attributed to any time period for the most part. Dead presidents/can I live have been constantly redone and remixed by other rappers. The lines of the songs are still referenced throughout rap, I’ve heard radio stations still playing these songs. DJ’s love playing these instrumentals for rappers to spit on.

What I’m saying is regardless if you’re a jay z fan no matter how hard you try to avoid it something from that album 20+ yrs later will find its way into your ears. It’s crazy when I see people calling things ‘Universal classics” When the music doesn’t even live on. Just my 2 cents though

Being generous, we can give Nas 3(really 2).

So that puts;

KDot
Jay
Em
and Drake ahead of him.
KDot hasn't been around long enough to know how his albums will hold up. If I had to speculate...GKMC will be the one. TPAB was polarizing and DAMN wasn't good enough.

Jay I've discussed ad nauseum.

Em doesn't have any classics.

Drake is a hybrid artist and shouldn't in the conversation.

Illmatic
IWW
Stillmatic

Are bonafide classics

If you’re counting lost tapes as an album than that is a classic too

Gods son isn’t in my book.

Honestly LIG is a debatable, aged like :ahh:

Nas aint got 5 classics. Neither him or Jay got 5 classics. No way!!! I'll tell you who does have 5 classics

Dre - SOC, 100 Miles and Running, NFL, Chronic, Chronic 2001
Cube - SOC, AMW, KAW, DC, Predator
Common - Ressurection, One day it;ll all make sense, LWFC, BE, The Dreamer , the Believer

Eric B/Rakim and EPMD got 4 classics as their first 4 albums were flawless.

and that's just off the top of my head.

And this is why I don't take the Coli seriously. Don't quote me if you're just gonna troll.
His first three albums were good to great...at the time...but not classic level quality.
His music has aged terribly.

Which album do you think is classic and why?

Jay has 5 classics, da fukk some of ya talmbout?

Reasonable Doubt
Vol.2
Vol.3
The Dynasty
and Blueprint. Now we can stop right there, but if we were to take one of those away for whatever reason. 4:44 would replace any album taken out. Then there's the fact that the Black Album is his selling highest album to date....so again, plenty to replace those we can argue over.

He's the highest selling Emcee of all time. We're not doing this, I don't argue subjectivity, numbers don't lie. But the opinion that Em has 0 classic albums is just bait at this point.

:wow:

Illmatic - absolute classic. changed the rap game.
IWW - any album with take it in blood is a classic
Stillmatic - Intro, ether, got ur self a gun, 2nd childhood, u da man, what goes around and the flyest. fukking classic.
The lost tapes - this compilation album is better than most rappers careers. simply a classic. The du rags....
God's Son - no comment. just classic. nas went in on last real nikka alive.

Please name another rapper with 5 classics or more. Don't say jay z cuz he got three (RD, TB and TBA) and don't say Kendrick, he on 4 (GKMC, TPAB, DAMN and S80)

:banderas:
Another Nas thread... fukk...

5 classics!?

Nas doesn't even believe he has 5 classics.

Nas has DEFINITELY 1 classic: Illmatic. From there it was downhill, with It Was Written being a 'seriously dope *ss album' but not a classic (just like how GRODT is a classic and The Massacre is not (IWW is better than The Massacre though I think we can all agree).

Basically: you REALLY love Nas' music which is great, and it makes you think everything he did or at least all these projects are certified classics. But.. no. We live in the real world where albums like Doggystyle, Reasonable Doubt, All Eyez On Me, GRODT, The Eminem Show are the ONLY classics of those artists and these artists are LEGENDS... (maybe Jay has more than 1 classic perhaps Blueprint because it came out on 9/11 and did nrs..)

So.. Illmatic is the only classic Nas has. Let's just agree and move on fam. And no disrespect, I have both Illmatic and It Was Written right here on Vinyl. It's all good and Stillmatic on CD. Nas is dope, he definitely was dope for sure.

Kanye is the only one that comes to mind as an artist who can match.

Dynasty? Hell no, Vol 3, nah man. I don't even thin Vol 2 was that great but that Annie Sample put Jay Z over for the mainstream. dope album but I don't think it's even a top 3 album for him.
