Nas really got 5 classics. Name which other rapper that got 5 classic rap albums. Honestly.

I just feel overall production wise it's inconsistent and has a couple duds. And the Blueprint comparisons make it look worse.
:ehh:
I can respect that. The production on Blueprint was definitely more consistently better. Although...the rhyming on Stillmatic was consistently better.

Blood hound, like my style, poor lil rich are fire

I let my watch talk for me, my whip talk for me
My gat talk for me, BOW! What up homie
I can't get with that style of production. :yeshrug:
I'm going off distant memories, but those songs didn't have that organic sample based feel. They sounded cheap as I recall.

you serious? wasn't sure if you were joking lol

is it a classic? to me it's really on the fence and I lean more towards no but hey I'll take another classic for Cube
:lolbron:

why u think it is?
I personally don't consider it a classic...but it was definitely considered a dope album when it was out.
And it seemed like you were just listing every halfway decent project Cube's ever been involved in :prodigylol:

I listen to it every few months

Who ya wit
Sunshine
City is mine
I kno what girls like
Lucky Me
Were some of Jay softest records ever imo

Imo Can I get A & Money Ain’t... were the only non street records on vol 2
Maybe street isn't the right word for what I'm trying to convey.
It felt like his greatest departure from traditional sample-based production.
Vol. 1 had soft songs (Who Ya Wit ain't one of them though :picard:), but Jiggy production was still sample based (Sunshine and I Know What Girls Like in particular with just lifting classic old school beats). Lucky Me was soft as shyt. :picard:
Poor Jay couldn't even venture into a club without potentially brushing up against a girl and being sued :mjcry:
I remember being a 17 year old kid thanking god I wasn't rich and famous :mjcry:

With Vol. 2 you had songs with that Southern Bounce (Can I Get A) (when the fukk we start bouncing? :stopitslime:)
Timbo beats :francis:
Swizz :francis:

Hip hop had changed and the album was perfectly timed to do numbers :yeshrug:
That kind of shyt doesn't hold up with me as much as sample based production though :yeshrug:

I'm greatly oversimplifying things here :whoa:

GS was a step down from Stillmatic. Considered a dope album at the time...but not reaching the heights that Stillmatic did.

I dont know some people thought it was better than Stillmatic, mostly because of the theme I think (made after his mother passed and you felt on the later songs on the album). To me it s a 4 mic album but a classic Nas album in its own right

You saying 4 of his albums got 5 mics?

No, The Source gave him 2 5 mic albums (Stillmatic and Illmatic)
But XXL which has its own classic system gave him 2 XXLs (Lost Tapes and Life is Good)

Now, I know you can say magazines be bullshytting and you right, but we also have this discussion of classics and 5 mic albums because of them to begin with because of them because we try to have a system because of them.
So I was just considering that too

How did MBDTF have no impact? That album sold well, was instantly hailed as a classic and the songs were everywhere.

How is that not a huge impact?
I meant influence rather than impact.

Any superstar act dropping a project will have “impact”.

Hola Hovito and Jigga that Breh were filler.
Plus Jay was coasting on the mic on that album.

And both Jay and Nas were coming off albums that weren't considered great. Nastradamus was much worse than Dynasty though.

Fair points. I need to revisit The Blueprint. I'd agree that conceptually Nas was more impressive on Stillmatic. Lyrically it's just more impressive and effortlessly weaved into multiple songs. Whereas I always felt it was interesting that Hov basically decided his big lyrical exercise would...literally be a song called Lyrical Exercise where he's trying to prove he can hang with Nas lol. It's a good song of course don't get me wrong. But concept wise no one fukks with Nas.

Outside of Braveheart Party (which is a guilty pleasure for me) none of the last five songs are wack.
- braveheart partys really trash
- rule doesn't fit I nvr listen to that song
- my country's pretty garbage too
- as far as I'm concerned nas paid for the what goes around beat and gunit took that shyt and made it a classic with the hook and everything. Classic mixtape song could've even used that for bfm if that was there original beat. Always thought nas version wasn't intriguing at all.
- every ghettos another one that I just could nvr listen too
- you already know how I feel bout destroy and rebuild breh

I swear rap is the only medium where the word classic gets passed around more than Bernice Burgos at a sheikhs camels birthday party.

No, nas doesn’t have 5 fukking classics, No, Kendrick doesn’t have 4 classics. No, Lil Wayne doesn’t have any classics. No 4:44 isn’t a fukking classic. Not even close. Nas has 1, jay has 2.Just because it’s a classic to YOU. Doesn’t make it a classic in the medium it resides. What’s the difference between a good album, great album, masterpiece and classic? Alot of great movies come out every year, you don’t hear movie enthusiast call all them shyts classics. You know why? I swear Hip-hop is so fukking trash :hhh:
