Nas really got 5 classics. Name which other rapper that got 5 classic rap albums. Honestly.

Still classic. Still dope

A week ago (classic. Line still used in 2017)

Paper chase (dope AF)

Jigga What (classic)

Money ain’t a thing (classic)

It’s alright (hidden Jay gem)

If I should die (dope. I did joints wit Mary j Blige my nikkas)

Reservoir Dogs (classic posse cut)

Can I (classic)

Hard knock (classic)

Ride or die (classic mase dis)

Money cash (historic collaboration. Not to mention the origin of a historic beef. “Restoring the feeling” “crushed the buildings” still being quoted

It’s like that (dope AF)

Coming of Age (dope aF)

No weak songs. No fillers. Jay most Street album excluding RD.
Have you listened to it recently? I revisited it about 1-2 years ago and there were really only 5-6 songs that appealed to me.

It was Jay's weakest album lyrically up to that point. And it was less street than Vol 1 and obviously RD.

Theres some weird answers to what is and isnt a classic here, MMFood and Stillmatic not a classic?

Its subjective as helll

If we go by publications which really gassed everyone to start that classic shyt, he has 4
You saying 4 of his albums got 5 mics?

Neither did MBDTF but that don’t stop muhhfukkas from calling it the greatest thing since sliced bread :francis:
How did MBDTF have no impact? That album sold well, was instantly hailed as a classic and the songs were everywhere.

How is that not a huge impact?

There's tracks in the last 5 that either don't fit or there forgettable/wack. There's tracks in some parts of the album that just don't cut it no more. Not saying it's bad just saying that it isn't a classic.
Outside of Braveheart Party (which is a guilty pleasure for me) none of the last five songs are wack.

Exactly. A classic album should meet certain criteria. Two big ones for me:

-perfect or nearly perfect
-influenced the genre or music

God's Son is an inconsistent album that was met with mixed reception. Those are facts. There are multiple questionable beats and songs on there. If God's Son is classic your criteria for classic is too low...

Stillmatic is dope but the only reason people claim it's classic is due to stan wars. I know because I used to argue it was classic at school while endlessly debating Hov stans. But come on. The Blueprint is a classic with no bad songs, clearly influenced the genre and had an impact. Stillmatic was a return to form for Nas and a comeback but that speaks moreso to how weak his previous album was.

God's Son is a 3/5 type album. I'll give it a 3.5 since I'm a stan. Stillmatic is a 4/5 or 4.5/5
Hola Hovito and Jigga that Breh were filler.
Plus Jay was coasting on the mic on that album.

And both Jay and Nas were coming off albums that weren't considered great. Nastradamus was much worse than Dynasty though.

So you agree Stillmatic is a classic too?
:ehh:
Cool

Also whats this mixed reception for God Son, it made it on plenty of best of year lists that year and mostly rated high (81% metacritic). Sure I saw a couple of so so reviews but for the most part the reception was like 4/5. It may have gotten some revisionist hate cause 9th remixed God Stepson so well but its a well recieved Nas album generally speaking
GS was a step down from Stillmatic. Considered a dope album at the time...but not reaching the heights that Stillmatic did.

i love this album but it did not make much of an impact on hip hop.

Thugz Mansion has aged badly for me along with Revolutionary Warfare.
I still love both those songs. I think it made an impact...it wasn't influential on hip hop as a whole if that's what you mean?
Stillmatic really brought the focus back to lyrics.

I personally loved the album but it was in and out really quickly.

I like it more than BP.
i can see that argument.

The lyrics on Vol. 1 were more introspective and emotional than Blueprint.

And the Blueprint was not one of Jay's best performances lyrically, but sonically that album is amazing and ushered in the return of soul samples.

It also brought Just Blaze and Kanye to the forefront.
