Hey I’m completely happy with championing the GOAT and getting not one but TWO incredible albums from him in the same year while you, as a supposed “fan” are miserable because he had the AUDACITY to drop a project without your approval of a proper release window.

I’ma probably write four more pages of material before its all said and done so just put me on ignore if it bothers you.

YOU are the one that quoted me, so obviously this conversation bothers YOU :mjlol:

I'm just posting what I feel as a lifelong fan, like all Nas fans can't have a difference of opinion. I made my post quoting no one, and here you come

Both albums are classic, I never criticized the album at all. But nope that wasn't enough :russ:

More concerning is how people are trying to treat Magic like a mixtape and not a real album. This is crazy to me. Same goes for Lost Tapes and Lost Tapes 2. Those are all albums as much as any album.

I don’t really see anyone outside of this thread treating it as a mixtape. More so I just think the album caught a LOT of people off guard but all of the Youtube reviews are giving it the respect as an ALBUM that it deserves

Nas kind of treating it that way himself though with no physical release options, no videos, no real promo. Just something to feed the diehard fans and keep them buzzing.

I feel like Hitboy gave Nas the same feel of the beat switch on “The Cure” for 9 straight songs.

With that framing, it makes perfect sense why this project was so well done.

That's exactly how I feel. Like he must've heard so many people going nuts on that second beat he figured he'd use it as a template for this particular album.

It's the modern version of a street album. Some in this thread were complaining about the rollout, but that was the whole point - he wanted this shyt to be lowkey, dropping it on Christmas eve with one day's notice

In '98 it would've been a cassette tape only sold at local spots in NY

Exactly how I feel although I think Magic is slightly better than KD1, songs like Car #85, Ultra Black, 10 Points, and The Cure are what set Nas apart from the rest of his peers and truly make him the GOAT. Nas in my opinion is the most well-rounded MC ever. He can approach so many subject matters from such a unique point of view, mix that with the poetry of his writing and thats why he’s the GOAT. ONLY Nas can pull off something like I Can, Rewind, Book Of Rhymes, Who Killed It, etc. and it comes off natural and not forced or gimmicky.

I know Anthony the music nerd usually doesn't give super high scores but like you said a 7 in his book is HIGH praise (although objectively Magic doesn’t deserve anything less than an 8) i’ll actually give his review a watch since he usually does pretty decent break downs of bis opinion.

And just for perspective too, even though Fantano's score is similar to Pitchforks (a 7 to a 6.8) the reviews are like night and day.

So its not even about the score but whats being said. Hes just looking at the music and what he likes, whereas the other dude is going through some weird internalizing about how they feel about Nas personally through his music

Been watching these guys for a few months now and I enjoy how they police a lot of general music journalism's covering of Hip Hop

Coop in particular is hilarious cause he cuts right to the point on these CaCs and he's got that judgemental look of dissapointment at them with those frames on which always makes me laugh:mjlol:

"What I tell you about these on code jaron Mike?":unimpressed:

"you need to take that up with yourself":unimpressed:

"No one asked for this album? No one asked for this review":unimpressed:
