Nas won the race. He's doing victory laps. And he's done it all at his own pace. That's why I don't bother arguing with nikkas about this nikka. The success speaks for itself. Nas has received numerous accolades from his peers. He was the golden child from day one and he's made it look easy. Never kissed the media's ass or played the usual politics. He's the peoples champion. And his detractors don't like that. To top it all off, Nas doesn't do half the bragging that he can do. From money to women and everything in between. If Nas wanted to, he could go on Ric Flair level rants. This isn't dikk riding. This isn't fantasy. I'm not hyping him up. It's all facts. That's why the critics always look for chinks in his armor.

All facts. I’ve been working on a blog post that examines Nas’ career and why he’s the only hip hop artist that has produced music for 3 decades that has continued to resonate with me. His longevity and catalogue is so impressive that it’s hard to pick which aspects are the most noteworthy. Truly Magic.

One thing I was thinking about. the ones who wanted Nas to stay in that Illmatic Lane forget it would have got repetitive as hell. Nas becoming a global name means his subject matter diversified and could rap about multiple perspectives and experiences.

song that comes to mind as an example is You’re Da Man or even in latest albums Nobody.

Listening now and it's a good conversation. Who are these guys though?

Been on several years. Amin Hassan who use to be on ESPN and Big Wos who is now on the Ringer are regulars. They talk about black culture from every angle. The two speaking are the guys who focus on music.

I hear the inspirations and maybe you feel that his songs fail to compare to what they emulate like the Just Blaze sounding 40-16. Even when he uses Premo's actual drums on wave gods some people say the drums are weak...

That's because they are in comparison:

Using the same sounds doesn't mean the same results.

Primo's drums hit you in the face and you can hear all the dirt and grit on them. The snare on Livin' Proof has a lot of noise on it as the sound trails off. You don't hear that at all on Wave Gods because all the sounds on top drown it out. It's the same thing we saw with Hit Boy's version of Life is Like a Dice Game vs Easy Moe Bee's. Hit Boy tends to emphasize certain sounds which lead to some of his beats sounding sterile or flat like @Piff Perkins said.

The samples on Livin' Proof are sparse letting the drums breathe. Primo literally extracted the noise off the sample and put it on a separate track just to make it stand out:

Little details like that add character to the production. When you see people being critical of Hit Boy and saying something is missing in his beats it's usually something that the average listener probably isn't even paying attention to. If you either make beats or are into music production on a technical level you're going to have a more critical ear.

It's all a matter of preference. You lean towards Hit Boy production fine. Some people lean towards Alchemist. Some people lean towards Tyler, etc. We have our reasons so who's to say who's wrong?:yeshrug:

Jesus fukking Christ, y'all gotta learn how to argue without creating Strawmen.

How many times have I have had to say that I don't think these beats are bad, just that they could be better?
I love what Hitboy has done with the last 3 albums for Nas. I also agree with what you have been saying.

You can like something and also be critical of it.

Imagine him hyping up smashing all those dimepiece thots including Sade, knowing BIG and PAC personally, knocking out Jay-Z at his height of career, making 50 Cent back down after calling him a porch monkey during "Untitled" era, and doing so for 30 years? :damn:
