Math Hoffa I think would be interesting and one i’d want Nas to do. Drink Champs is too much about gossip which doesn’t suit Nas to me. although Math does wanna talk about controversy the angle of the discussion a bit more grown.

Too many Jay z dikk riders on the math Hoffa show

I swear just for the sake of Stanning y'all cats will say anything on this site, do you realize "Stillmatic" has at least 7 all time classic Nas songs on it and you actually said KD2, 3 and Magic can definitely compete with "Stillmatic." Smfh

Stillmatic Intro
Ether
You're Da Man
Rewind
One Mic
2nd Childhood
Destroy & Rebuild
Stillmatic man…tryna tell ‘em bro. Stillmatic >>>>> IWW, 🤷🏽‍♂️. His 2nd best album. I love all the albums with Hit but none of them can compare. I could argue “Poison” is a top 30 Nas joint too 😳, I’d exchange that for Destroy and Rebuild on your list. Every rapper should study Stillmatic, learn how to make a complete rap album, all different concepts and ideas on every record…and all done flawlessly besides like 3 joints

The Blog era artists who really blew up, which I think Ferg and Rocky are a part of will always have people checking for them. Something about the way they crossed over with a generation is crazy (ASAP, Mac Miller, Wiz, Kendrick, Cole, Cudi, Nicki, Drake)

I think if Nas was to feature any of them they'd get high streams

I gotta agree. I love this run by Nas but he's missing some singles on each project. And the melodies aren't really carrying so the albums don't have as many legs. It's like the albums are bangers but they're mostly those great album cuts. Like BIG said, you gotta make something for the masses too. I think Hit carried the first 2 albums, they both did their thing for 3rd and 4th album and this last 5th album Nas carried it. I wish Hit would hit him with something for the radio. I don't really care if it's overtly radio-friendly. Something to let the people know. Get DJ Khaled on it. That guy's got the ear and network to pull together a radio single.

I think he’s just trying to make jammin records lol, for real. He used to make a conscious effort to be “lyrical” or substantive and come with that type of energy, for better or for worse. I think now the primary focus is just making sure that shyt is knockin, that shyt jammin…I don’t think he even cares about a “single” and a radio record anymore like that, just good sounding shyt.

It’s not totally at the expense of the “Nas” that us diehards grew to love, he’s still lyrical and substantive, it’s just that got turned down a few notches while the music itself got turned up, imho. I’d be remiss to complain about it since I was bytching and moaning that he should do this for years lol. Fly ass grown folk rap, he personified that shyt these last 3 years. I can understand why he lost some of the underground/backpack type dudes…at the same time I’m sure he picked up some new fans as well working with Hit.

I love Stillmatic. Its the album that made me a stan. But we gotta keep it real KD3 can compete with that album as an overall body of work. The beats are absolutely better on KD3.

Legit

Micheal and Quincy
WTF/SMH ( the 2nd half of that song :blessed:
Beef

Obviously those are not as good as the best songs from Stillmatic but its not a clear landslide. My version of Stillmatc haf braveheart party so it kinda counts. Destroy and Rebuild wasn’t good. Smokin wasn’t too good

The radio? Do people even still listen to the radio?

Quick summary from how I experience it:

Office hours - drums
Black Magic - bass
Motion - drums
Bokeem Woodbine - drums
Magic Johnson - bass
Slow it down - both drums and bass
Pistols - both drums and bass

My issue with the drums is that they sound pasted over the track, it reminds me of the days of lower bitrate mp3s. The bass on tracks like Black Magic and Magic Johnson sounds distorted, but not intentional.
On tracks where both are an issue like Pistols on your album cover there seems to a lack of balance between the two, and especially the drums suffer for it.
It makes for an unpleasant listen, I wouldn't go as far as saying it hurts my ears but enough to not want to listen to it on headphones anymore.

Yeah, I'm going through these one by one and this is just a flat, lifeless mix. It definitely could have been mixed and mastered better.

I agree with everything you said. I never felt like Hit Boy's drums sound that great but on here they either aren't knocking like they should (office hours), they're not leveled right with the other sounds (pistols), the kick is clashing with the bass so the low end sounds muddy (EMJ, black magic), or the kick is too soft (EMJ).

I don't think any of the samples on here are stand outs or do anything interesting sonically so maybe the engineer didn't feel like there was much to work with.

KD3 is stellar…great album, I don’t have it nowhere near Stillmatic tho bro. It’s all subjective tho, 🤷🏽‍♂️. Like son said, Stillmatic got arguably like 6-7 of Nas’s best records ever…like top 25-30, that’s insane. Nas probably got thousands of records…fire records…that album is different man

Haven't ran back the album in a while but which song specifically?

There's is something off about the mix. Certain parts of the beats don't hit right, whether I'm in the car or on headphones. It's worse on headphones tho. Maybe one of the producers here can explain better.

I agree the mixing sounds off and some of the beats sound "tiny"

Idk if its Hit's sample packs or plugins but some of it don't sound crisp or professional

No I’m not going to let you do that. The songs are there. There about truthfully 10-12 songs throughout these albums that are mainstream bangers, radio hits. The issue is no radio stations get behind Nas. Even the New York radio don’t get behind the records like they should when it comes to Nas. Let’s call it what it is. It has been like that for years but even more so now, because the radio hits are there. The mainstream appea is there. Brunch on Sunday for example is song that should be on the radio every Sunday. It’s very Modern and today. The songs are there, but Nas doesn’t get a fair share in todays climate.

I dunno about that. Im not saying your wrong. I'd have to really give that some thought. Your da man, Rewind and One Mic are absolutely top 30s. ( them joints were all back to back too :banderas:
