Huge Nas stan...this shyt is nothing special and disappointing considering how fukking good the first Magic album is.

The Nas/Hitboy run was exemplary but it's run it's course. The GOAT needs to get it in with other producers now.

Yeah, with the first Magic you could tell he really had a chip on his shoulder about the top 3 thing, and he sounded like he had something to prove. He's bragging, but flow wise the "umph" is gone and even though the lyrics are still there he just sounds like he's going through the motions.

The problem with Pistols has been the problem with Hitboy as a whole. He's looping up sample pack loops and stock sounds and calling it a day. It's been a constant complaint since the first KD. Actually even before that, even since this joint people were shytting on him.

That's a loop from a sample pack called "DIRTY SOUTH BANGAZ." That's not a joke. He downloaded a sample pack with that name, picked a loop and just added drums to it. Like a 12 year old who just figured out how to pirate FL Studio.
The quality of his production can depend on his choice of pre-made loops and he doesn't always have the ability to tweak them in a way that's interesting sonically. The difference between a song like Get Light and Pistols is just the loop he picked from whatever sample pack he was spoon fed. The Get Light sample pack is called "1993 Sample Pack" and was just used by Goldlink in 2019 for a pretty big song.

It's not something you expect from a professional producer with a name. It's like finding out Picasso was just using a paint by numbers template.

Right now I have this album over KD1, but that's about it. Personally I thought KD1 was mostly bland and boring, so that's not really saying much.

Get Light one of my favorite tracks. Most Hip Hop is made of samples. You're upset he's using sample packs instead of digging through the crates? :why:

50 sounds screwed and chopped, he is a Houstonian now, so it only makes cents

I enjoyed his contribution to the track.

Kanye supposed to be one of the goats and he couldn’t do that with Nas. Alc is doing ok working with Boldy and the others he already work with IMO. I wouldn’t be mad at a Nas/Alc album but I’m not looking for one.

Kanye threw beats at Nas & told him you got 7 days to record this shyt.

They was still working on the album on the way to the listening release :mjlol:

I’m pretty confident the recording process with Alc or any other producer would be much different to Kanye.

The truth is somewhere in the middle.
Exactly. I'm not even saying it's trash. To me it's a 3.5 mic album. Which normally was considered a respectable effort. But Nas stans always gotta pretend everything he drops is no lower than 4.5 mics. Smh.

A 4.5 mic album is War Report. It's Disposable arts. It's bulletproof wallets. Train of thought. Pimp a butterfly.

Now if you think this album or any Nas and Hitboy album is even remotely close to these I just can't respect anything you say regarding hip hop music. And I don't wanna hear shyt about times changing. The bar for greatness does not change period.

Just because there's technically nothing outright garbage on an album doesn't make it great. An album full of decent songs is still just a decent album. But that's precisely the problem with these Nas and Hitboy collabs. Hitboy is just not meeting nas's level. Nas is at a 9. Hit is at a 4. Hitboy's beats are background music status. He's actually holding nas back at this point.

Bro, I love Nas...but this album is just ok. Outside of Motion, nothing outstanding is on it. Nas raps well on it but not as well as the previous Magic and most these Hitboy beats are just okay or just flat. And I'm not one of these nikkas calling for boom bap, 90s style production for Nas but just feel it's time to start working with some other producers now. He's been working basically solely with HB for awhile now and I personally would like him to experiment with other producers before he stops rapping at this pace, which will eventually happen.

With that said... Motion :wow:
