I was hoping this album would be my Nas summer soundtrack since that's what LT2 was to me and I didn't feel KD1 at all. And I didn't get the chance to really let KD2 run on an extended ride until this past weekend. I think an album has to play all the way through to really cement the sound and associate it with a specific time frame, occassion, etc.

But something crazy happened. I remember that as much as I loved "Moments" from when I first played it when the album dropped, I was kinda thrown off with the "taking your first swim" line first few times I heard it. Didn't think that was a "moment" and was more of a filler line. I was like, "who really cares that much about swimming, especially black folk ? :dahell:"

And then I was driving back from vacation in Ocean City, MD this morning with my girl and her 6yr old son, just appreciating the time we all spent, and that track came on. I don't have any biological seeds myself yet, but I love this boy like my own and his father is a deadbeat. And this weekend was his first time ever at a beach and last night was his first time ever in a pool. And the excitement and wonder on his face brehs. :mjcry:

He literally was yelling "I'm swimming!! " and had the :krs: just enjoying a late night dip in the pool after begging to go to a water park trip all summer. Like, I didn't get it until it I literally saw it.

I actually teared up playing this song on the way home and remembering that moment from yesterday. It was special before and the sadness of having to end a family getaway and go back to the real world and wanting to "extend the stay" as Nas said stings, but the jewel of the album IMO is the line "I can't relive last night, I"m excited for today." This dude really summed up an entire emotional roller coaster for me in one beautiful song that I didn't fully appreciate until those "Moments" hit. :wow:

Nas is the GOAT man. I ain't even saying that caping for the album, cuz there's a few tracks on here that I skip, and I still put LT2 over it. But this album is serving its purpose for me and is my summer soundtrack for 2021 and showing how Nas is just on another level from other top MCs in the history of hip-hop. Got out the car to go in the crib and a car rolled past me bumping "Nobody". Shyt is just crazy.

Looks like Rolling Stone won’t be doing a review for KD2 (Thank GOD) and HipHopDX’s review hasn’t been added as part of the aggregate so it looks like KD2’s Metacritic score will top out at 88. Which is tied with Tyler The Creator as the most critically acclaimed rap album of the year! It also stands at number 14 amongst criticall acclaim regardless of genre (To put that in proper perspective, there are 5 albums with a score of 88 and Nas is only in 14th position by proxy of release date)

This is an INCREDIBLE feat for a rapper 30 years in the mainstream. Jay-Z didn’t accomplish this with 4:44. Eminem didn’t accomplish this with Music To Be Murdered By. Dr Dre didn’t accomplish this with Compton.

And to think pitchforks completly anti Nas story was the only thing holding it back from being in the 90's. We all know that wasnt a sincere write up.

Kd3 - The Trifectum

This will be his true second magnum opus. I'm expecting a modern day Illmatic.

.
I can see Nas bringing in DJ Premier to do half the album with Hitboy, coming full circle. At this point working with Premo again is all that's left. He done brought back The Firm, Dr Dre, & Lauryn Hill.
