I don't think Doja will be in the rap category. Assuming Kendrick and Drake release in time, they'll likely be the favorites for any rap awards right. Cardi coming too. And Dre coming. Should be fun, and more importantly lots of good music on the way.
If they don't drop til after September then they won't even be on the ballot.

i think the fact that Hitboy doesnt have a signature sound to his production like say Premo helps him craft tracks to suit the mood and concepts of the songs Nas developes more. His range of sound is more broader. its the same no barrier platform that other Nas producers have had in the past (Salaam, LES).
Hitboy seems to be on Rare form. :wow:.

The album doesn’t feel one note at all. No one coming out with albums that have that mello jazzy feel like “Nobody” and have a hard trap beat “40 Side” and something super soulful like “Store Run”. All on the same album. shyts incredible. Hit boy can do it all. I gotta revisit the projects he did last year again. He’s def a top producer in the game.

I'd argue that Hitboy's signature sound is stuff like Goldie, Sicko Mode, Clique, nikkas In Paris, Backseat Freestyle, Racks In The Middle, etc.

Lowkey, dude would wash a lot of our favorite producers in a verzuz.

Was wondering, if you had to judge instrumentals only (and not necessarily how it meshes with Nas or not), what are your top 5 beats on there?

And how do they compare with the best stuff out there? (i don't listen to a lot of other current shyt)

I got, if we speaking instrumental only :
Nas is Good
Death Row East
Rare
Store Run

These 4 will never change for me. Then the 5th can be anything between Nobody, Composure, Moments, My Bible, Count me in, or even YKTV which is amazing production

I even wonder if radio hosts would start throwing some of these beats for freestyles on their shows

Wanna hear AZ on some of 'em, Black Thought etc..

Glad this is getting the recognition it deserves. 30 years deep the gawd is still in he mix with the top dogs. shyt is unheard of. Even haters like Elliot gotta humble themselves for Nas.

Right now I got

1. Nas - King's Disease II
2. Mach Hommy - Pray For Haiti
3. Tyler The Creator - Call Me When You Get Lost
4. DJ Muggs & Rome Streetz - Death & The Magician
5. J Cole - The Off Season

(Haven't listened to the new Boldy/Alchemist or Ka albums yet)

Thats why one gotta respect his craft.. Hit on both KD1 and KD2 never gave the same formula but the same dopeness to his sound.
Somehow it gives me comfort that he can go whatever direction and still pull it off.
Why reach out to Pete/ Qtip when u can make a track like Nobody with HitBoy, Why go to Kanye when u can make a track like Nas Is Good
Even Death Roe East gave us a more modern WCoast sound. I wont even talk about Rare

I like the gritty NY Sound, im super fan to Premo, NoID, Alchemist, Havoc, Large Pro.
But what HB and Nas have done on the Last two albums is specials, It kinda give direction to Nas's Growth as an artist and personal maturity that kicked off
from LIG.
